About the Role

  • Part Time (0.5 FTE) Maximum Term Contract Until 31 March 2024
  • Classification: Consumer Service Delivery Level 1 with a salary range of $60,248 - $65,721 per annum pro rata + Superannuation

Neami National is a community mental health service supporting people living with mental illness to improve their health, live independently and pursue a life based on their own strengths, values and goals. We have been providing mental health support for over 30 years. We were founded on an alliance between professionals, individuals and their families. Collaborative recovery remains at the heart of who we are today.

About the Peer Cadet Program:

Peer Cadets will explore how to bring lived experience learnings and apply their Mental Health Peer Work studies to support consumers in Neami National programs. Cadets will gain firsthand experience in supporting people in their mental health and wellbeing journey through shadowing experienced workers, planning and offering direct supports. Peer Cadets will be supported by a Peer Mentor and the Victorian Peer Practice Lead (VPPL) in working collaboratively and developing their peer practice and skills. Cadets will receive line supervision from their Peer Mentors and VPPL to explore their learning goals, placement experience, and workshop challenges, alongside participating in regular co-reflection opportunities in Community of Practice and team spaces. Cadets will learn from a wide variety of clinical and non-clinical professionals in understanding how to collaborate and complement other practice approaches as a Peer professional. Cadets will also undertake training and have access to other training opportunities.

  • Are you enrolled/studying/want to study the Certificate IV Mental Health Peer Work?

  • Do you understand your limits and how to take care of your wellbeing?
  • Are you ready to support others with kindness, compassion, and shaped by Neami’s Code of Ethics?
  • Are you available most Tuesdays, Wednesdays plus another day (flexible), and can start the program 1st week of July 2023?

What you bring to the role?

  • Personal experience of mental health challenges and recovery plus an awareness of how to draw on these learnings appropriately, when connecting with others
  • Evidence of enrolment and undertaking of the Cert IV in Mental Health Peer Work
  • Uphold ethical behaviour, consistent with the values of honesty, fairness, ability to receive and respond to feedback to grow and develop
  • Ability to develop respectful professional relationships, uphold confidentiality, and establish clear working boundaries

What the role requires:

  • National Criminal History Check (Police check) disclosable outcomes considered
  • Current Working with Children Check required before commencement of work
  • Current Drivers licence
  • Australian Working Rights
  • As part of Neami’s condition of employment you will need to provide appropriate evidence of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (having received three doses) to Neami National.
