Job Description

BiomeBank is a commercial stage microbiome therapeutics company with the first approved donor derived microbiome therapy approved in the world. This therapy is currently being provided to Australian hospital networks with the aim of expanding sales nationally and internationally.

Our multidisciplinary team of research scientists and drug development experts are at the forefront of microbiome research and development. The translation of research into the development of innovative and life-saving microbiome-based therapies are further bolstered by BiomeBank’s partnership with world-leading biomedical research organisations. This includes RMIT University, Hudson Institute of Medical Research, and Hospital Networks globally.

Our team of translational microbiome experts have developed a unique drug discovery platform that combines the capabilities of advanced bioinformatic analysis with phenotypic microbiology to inform microbiome drug discovery and development.

Due to continued growth, and increased complexity of the business, we have the opportunity for a Financial Controller to join our Adelaide based team (CBD location). The key focus of this role is to support and lead the financial and management accounting functions of the business. This is both a strategic and hands-on role which will require you to meet key objectives, utilise your technical expertise for the delivery of projects and all aspects of the finance function.

As a key member of our financial team, you'll report directly to the CFO and work closely with other team members. Excellent communication skills are crucial in this role, as you'll collaborate with the management team to drive profitability and optimise resources.

The role provides a progressive career path with the possibility for the right candidate to transition to the CFO role.

Requirements

Key Responsibilities:

ACCOUNTING

  • Report corporate cost centre and project information to departments
  • Conduct cost analysis against budget/forecasts on a monthly basis
  • Communicate and report monthly budget and forecast reports to end users
  • Prepare monthly and ad-hoc board and management financial reports
  • Conduct commercial analysis and evaluation as required
  • Management and statutory reporting for the group including annual accounts and investor reports
  • Keep up to date with regulatory changes and provide updates where necessary
  • Prepare and report monthly against annual budget and cash flow forecasts
  • Assist with the management of working capital including term deposits
  • Recommend project specific and company-wide improvements
  • Overseeing purchasing / delegation of authority
  • Reconcile and review the general ledger accounts
  • Responsibility for the accounts payable function (end-to-end including processing)
  • Responsibility for the payroll function (end-to-end including processing)
  • Company-wide external taxation matters (in consultation with tax agent)
  • Assist with R+D tax incentive and grant applications
  • Appropriate supervision of staff where appropriate (external accounting supporting and administrative support)

SYSTEMS AND PROCESSES

  • Establish best practice accounting and monthly accrual processes and procedures
  • Develop best practice management accounting and cost management
  • Develop finance department process flows
  • Assist with the maintenance of Xero (incl. general ledger) and new functionality as appropriate
  • Assistance with the development of new systems and processes

GENERAL AND AD-HOC ASSISTANCE

  • Assist the Chief Financial Officer and other members of the management team with ad-hoc tasks
  • Understanding and management of convertible note structures and other financing arrangements

Skills and Experience:

  • Tertiary qualification in Business, Accounting, Finance, business administration or related field and be CA or CPA qualified.
  • Strong understanding of financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management
  • Proven success in developing and implementing financial policies, procedures, and internal controls
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with management teams to drive profitability and optimise resources
  • Adeptness at embracing challenges and improvising solutions
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to ensure smooth collaboration with the teams
