  • Classification: Consumer Service Delivery Level 3 $39.30 - $42.29 per hour + 25% casual loading

Neami National is a community mental health service supporting people living with mental illness to improve their health, live independently and pursue a life based on their own strengths, values and goals.

We have been providing mental health support for over 30 years. We were founded on an alliance between professionals, individuals and their families. Collaborative recovery remains at the heart of who we are today.

About your new role

Working in collaboration with the local Hospital amp; Health Service Transition from Prison Mental Health Team, the Individual Recovery Support Transition from Correctional Facilities Program is designed to offer a range of non-clinical psychosocial wraparound supports to individuals 18 years and over experiencing a severe mental illness who are currently in an adult correctional facility preparing for release back into the community.

This position contributes to the understanding of the wellbeing needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander consumers and will work within the team to assist with the development and delivery of SEWB support and cultural awareness and knowledge.

It is essential that the successful applicant has significant experience working with, and has connections to, Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Island communities in the Cairns Regional Area.

  • Formal tertiary qualification in Mental Health or related field
  • Knowledge of QLD correctional system

  • Proven ability to navigate barriers of inclusion in the greater community with hope and dignity
  • Sound knowledge and proven ability delivering service provision aligned with mental health recovery principals
  • Ability to maintain professionalism ensuring self and service are Trauma informed not impacted


Genuine understanding and intention for this role to have positive impact on indigenous people with a willingness and capacity to follow through with required action to achieve outcomes in the context of long-term system reform

What the role requires:

  • National Criminal History Check (Police check) disclosable outcomes considered
  • Current Working with Children Check required before commencement of work
  • Current Drivers licence
  • Australian Working Rights
  • As part of Neami’s condition of employment you will need to provide appropriate evidence of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (having received three doses) to Neami National.
