Job Description

Reporting to the General Counsel, you will be a senior member of the Beam Legal Team with ownership and responsibility for:

(i) legal matters within the Beam ANZ business; and

(ii) TMT matters and regulatory compliance and data privacy initiatives regionally across the Beam Group.

Would be ideally suited to a lawyer looking to be a part of a unique dynamic culture where the Legal function sits as a central part of the business rather than a gatekeeper function.

Responsibilities

General

  • Be the point of contact for all legal matters for Beam in Australia and New Zealand
  • Identify and consult on legal risks in relation to technology, privacy, security, and compliance matters in connection with development of new products and expansion into new markets/ verticals
  • Assist the General Counsel in the establishment of a robust and effective Legal and Compliance function

Data Privacy and TMT

  • Provide cyber security, privacy and data security subject-matter expertise and guidance to cross-functional teams
  • Act as the Data Protection Officer and lead the development and management of policies and procedures to ensure compliance with global laws bearing on privacy and cybersecurity
  • Provide commercial advice on TMT matters, including IP, licensing and other tech related legal matters

Compliance

  • Oversee and lead the implementation of a compliance framework for the Beam Group.
  • Ensure compliance controls, procedures and training are in place to ensure that the businesses are fully compliant, including controls and procedures on the prevention, monitoring and investigation of AML, bribery and corruption, export control/sanctions breaches and data privacy.
  • Lead periodic compliance reviews on the design and effectiveness of our risk and compliance frameworks and individual controls

Requirements

  • 6+ PQE with relevant experience at a top tier law and/or inhouse legal/compliance experience. Preferably with at least two years of regional remit across APAC
  • Experience in fast-evolving and dynamic industries preferred, with legal expertise in regulatory, TMT, IP, data privacy and technology related issues
  • Strong understanding and experience in the establishment of data privacy and compliance eg. AML, ABC, Export Control) policies and processes
  • Ability to be a sole-operator but also experienced in building and managing a team
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to clearly articulate issues and outline risks to engage and enable stakeholders to act
  • Strong problem solving capability - thinking beyond the legal technicalities and viewing problems holistically
  • Rapid execution capability - ability to work within tight time constraints on time-sensitive issues
  • Commercial mindset - ability to strike the right balance between the growth needs of our organization whilst maintaining the appropriate level of compliance
