Job Description

We're looking for an Interaction Designer to join our team. You might currently call yourself a UI designer, Digital Designer or a "graphic designer who does digital".

You will design beautiful and engaging experiences for screens and beyond. You will champion great visual, interaction and communication design on projects of any size: defining the aesthetic of brands, campaigns, websites and apps. You’ll tread new visual ground, rapidly prototype and test interface ideas, design the states in between screens, and create sound, elegant design systems.

We are mostly based in Yálla-birr-ang (Collingwood, Melbourne) and we welcome applications from all lands and backgrounds. We encourage applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, people with disability, people from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds, mature age workers and lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTIQA+) people.

About the role

Our interaction designers define and design the aesthetic and interactions that make an experience engaging and usable; collaborating with technology, strategy, content and delivery to bring that experience to life. Your individual creative process is your most powerful tool. You will guide users, collaborators and clients through that process, helping them through ambiguity toward clarity.

You’ll be an integral part of a multidisciplinary team of producers, designers, strategists and technologists working on impactful projects across public service, non-profits, education, philanthropy, climate and more.

Your days will be spent

  • Crafting beautiful interfaces for any screen size
  • Generating visually compelling and stylistically diverse art directions
  • Creating moodboards and design concepts for new brands, campaigns and digital products
  • Creating interactive prototypes
  • Exploring motion and animation in interfaces
  • Finessing typography, grids and colour palettes
  • Participating in user research, testing and co-design
  • Working with developers on implementation
  • Working with clients to understand their needs and take them on the journey of a design process

Requirements

About you

You will be able to demonstrate:

  • Experience in digital experience design, graphic design
  • An eye for typography
  • A diverse taste in design
  • Ability to generate many different visual ideas and art directions
  • Technical capability to deliver digital, print and brand design
  • Excellent written and verbal presentation capability
  • You must be legally able to work in Australia.

You will also bring:

  • A passion for beautiful design
  • Creative problem solving
  • Client and stakeholder management skills
  • An ability to thrive in a collaborative, creative team environment
  • You treat others with kindness, empathy and respect
  • You are optimistic and bring humour, lightness and play into your work
  • You approach every moment thinking ‘how can I help?’

A note to readers

Research indicates that while men apply to jobs when they meet an average of 60% of the criteria, women and other marginalised people tend to only apply when they check every box. So if you think you have what it takes to do the role, but don't necessarily meet every single criteria, please get in touch. We'd love to chat and see if you could be a great fit.
