Job Description
We're seeking a Software Engineer - (PHP focus) with a passion for problem solving to join our Matrix CMS team on a permanent basis, supporting both the Matrix CMS and our Workplace intranet product. This role will have a strong focus on supporting, maintaining and stabilising the product.
You’ll be working alongside other developers who’ve been part of the making Matrix what it is today, and helping to improve both our Matrix and Workplace products. You will also work collaboratively with some great engineers in other areas such as our DevOps and SRE teams to make sure our product continues to perform and scale well.
We’re location-flexible! This role is open to all candidates on the east coast of Australia.
What will I do?
- Create, maintain, and improve code in the Matrix CMS, infrastructure, and supporting tooling Maintain code in the Workplace Intranet product and provide support for existing customers
- Develop a deep understanding of the Matrix CMS and Workplace codebases and architecture
- Work across both our dedicated Squiz Cloud and AWS SaaS hosting environments
- Use data driven decision making to help prioritise refactoring tasks and bug fixes
- Release changes to production and monitor their impact on the customer base
- Support internal developers by diagnosing and resolving issues with customer projects
- Improve the performance and hosting cost of the CMS when running in our AWS SaaS environment Design and run performance and load tests to diagnose bottlenecks and measure the success of changes
What do I need?
- A passion for learning new skills and concepts
- A drive to understand how an application works, and to experiment and dive deep to enhance that understanding The ability to debug issues in a complex and unfamiliar codebase
- Commercial experience building or maintaining PHP applications
- Experience working with relational databases (ideally PostgreSQL)
- Familiarity with AWS or other public cloud services would be beneficial
Who you would be working with:
The Squiz product team is working to deliver a cloud-based digital experience platform (DXP). A core component of our DXP is Matrix, a much-loved CMS used by hundreds of large clients around the world.
Matrix is a PHP CMS backed by a PostgreSQL database and using combination of React (minor) and PHP-generated UIs. Customers host Matrix in both our Squiz private cloud and in our AWS-based SaaS environment.
Workplace is an intranet product built on top of Matrix. It extends the core Matrix product code database storage, as well as providing modern UIs for content authoring focused on intranet use cases.
