Open Pit Engineer Production

About our role

Northern Star Resources KCGM site are seeking a dynamic and motivated Production Engineer to join our Open Pit Mining Department. Working an eleven (11) hour day on an 8/6 dayshift only roster. This is a residential role located in Kalgoorlie.

Purpose of the Role

The role reports directly to the Production Superintendent and complements the Open pit Production Coordinator by providing technical feedback between operations and Mine Technical Services departments. The successful candidate will work to support the production plan by responding to plan variance.

Typical Tasks;

  • Attend and provide input to the daily shift production. The purpose of this meeting is to align all stakeholders on the production plan for the shift and day.
  • Identify gaps and issues that need to be resolved.
  • Support the Production Coordinator and Dispatch Supervisor by identifying solutions to conflicts and out of plan adverse conditions.
  • Complete safety investigations when necessary and assign appropriate actions.
  • This role works across all technical disciplines and the role is required to pivot to any area that requires problem solving. Including drill amp; blast, blending, production mining, mine and dump design (temporary and interim designs, not final).
  • The role must escalate to leader when the production plan is unable to be achieved due to unresolvable issues.

What does success look like?

  • Reliable and consistent delivery of the Production plan.
  • This role is successful when the amount of time spent in improvements is the majority. This role is less successful when the role requires the person to be spending the majority of the time in remediating the plan.
  • To be successful in the role a person should have experience or familiarity with a wide range of technical disciplines and be agile to either learn, apply logic to find solutions, or network to subject matter experts (appropriate roles).

Required skills and experience:

  • Engineer (preferably in Mining or Civil).
  • A minimum of five (5) years’ operational and/or technical services experience in an open pit mining/quarry environment.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Strong understanding of mining sequence process including but not limited to Drill amp; Blast, Dispatch, scheduling and Plan Compliance Reporting.
  • Preferably exposed to PC8000 shovel and CAT793 Truck operation/Mines
  • Experience in performance management of team members enhancing team self-esteem with the ability to coach, mentor and influence others
  • Current Unencumbered Western Australian C Class Drivers Licence
  • National Police Clearance - valid within twelve (12) months.
  • Strong PC skills and computer literacy
  • Knowledge of the statutory regulations relevant to safety and the environment for the mining industry
  • Demonstrated problem solving/continuous improvement mindset
  • Current, or commencement of study towards attaining Quarry Managers Ticket.
