Senior Systems Engineer - Team Leader

Job Description
We believe in the mantra of experts leading experts and so we are looking for a skilled and fully competent Senior Systems Engineer to lead our Systems Operations Centre. The Systems Operations Centre is a senior engineering team that is responsible for managing customer Azure, IaaS, Wintel, Unix, Services and Microsoft 365 environments across a raft of high calibre customers.
As the Systems Team Lead, here’s what you’ll be doing:
- Take the lead in guiding and mentoring our system engineers as they develop their skill sets and advance their careers.
- People management of Systems Engineers, including providing consistent feedback on performance and conducting reviews, with a desire to see your team grow and develop.
- Managing the talent pipeline for the team, encouraging career progression from Systems Administrators through to Senior Systems Engineers.
- Managing the day to day operations of the systems team which includes ticket management and assignment.
- Motivate and energize the Systems Operations team to ensure they are performing at their best.
- Provide technical guidance and help guide team decisions.
- Implementing engineering processes and supporting the development of best practice.
- Perform escalation support to our other Business as Usual Teams as required
- Participate in regular scheduled shifts on-call outside of business hours.
- Collaborate with the Head of Managed Services to drive the direction of the Systems Team and seek continuous improvement.
Requirements
As a Systems Team Lead, here’s what you’ll bring:
- Prior experience as a Senior Systems Engineer and have a passion for working with people.
- Have a keen interest in becoming or having already been a people manager.
- A passion for sharing knowledge and helping others.
- Have the drive and capability to solve complex problems and maintain a mindset of continuous improvement.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, agile environment
- Capability to effectively communicate and collaborate with business stakeholders.
- Have a team mindset in that we, as an organisation are a team and we are all working together to achieve common goals.
- Ideally have experience with Hypervisor Hosts, SAN Systems and Microsoft server technologies such as Certificate Authorities, Active Directory, Remote Desktop Services, Microsoft 365, SQL and Exchange Servers. with configuration management, automation and tooling.
- Some experience with automation and scripting such as Powershell will be looked upon favorably but is not mandatory.
- Experience and knowledge in Azure is preferable but not mandatory
- Monitor, maintain and improve a variety of systems using best practice (security, testing and automation).
You will be required to work from our HQ in Coburg, Victoria, for the first 6 months, and then move to three days in the office and two days at home if you would like to work a hybrid model.
