We are searching for a Marine Biologist to join the Cruise Whitsundays team on a permanent full-time basis. Offering a unique lifestyle roster, working 4 days one week and 3 the next where you never work a full weekend! What will you be doing?

You will have the rewarding responsibility of providing Marine Education which enhances the guest experience on board our Great Barrier Reef Adventure. In addition you will perform ongoing Marine Research to support conversation and environmental responsibility.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform Marine Biology talks daily and providing knowledge on Marine Life where appropriate, ex: Whale Season;
  • Take glass-bottom boat and semi-submersible boat tours;
  • Test water for visibility (Sechi disk) and water temperature;
  • Undertake surveys for GBRMPA - ‘Eye on the Reef’ research
  • Undertake Cruise Whitsundays marine bio monitoring/ research
  • Undertake COTS monitoring and control
  • Monitor reef conditions and report on any changes
  • Report and document on reef health at different sites on Hardy Reef
  • Conduct media interviews/pieces to camera
  • Adherence to operational procedures and WHS requirements.
  • Cleanliness - Ensure the vessel is in a clean, tidy, and presentable condition for the transport of passengers
  • Customer Service - Leading by example, delivering exceptional guest experiences and consistent service.
  • Perform any other tasks or duties as required.


About You

The ideal candidate will show enthusiasm for imparting knowledge of Marine Biology onto guests and other crew. You will be a team player with a demonstrated positive "can-do" attitude, be comfortable working on water, and always deliver high-quality professional customer service whilst being a proud of ambassador of Cruise Whitsundays and The Great Barrier Reef.

To be successful in this role you:

  • Have minimum 1 year working as a Marine Biologist or a similar role in Marine Tourism;
  • Enthusiastic about imparting knowledge of Marine Biology onto guests and other crew;
  • Clear and confident communication skills;
  • Strong Public Speaking and Presentation abilities;
  • High level of interpersonal skills with a lead by example attitude;
  • Strong customer service skills and experience;
  • Reliable, self-motivated, and proactive;
  • Creative problem solver with strong adaptability.

Requirements

To be successful in this role you will have/hold:

  • Relevant qualifications in the field of Marine Biology;
  • HLTAID011 Provide First Aid amp; Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation;
  • HLTAID015 Apply Oxygen Resuscitation;
  • Responsible Service of Alcohol (QLD);
  • COVID Safe Dining In Certificate;
  • Elements of Shipboard Safety Certificate;
  • Working with Childrens Check (Blue Card);
  • Open water scuba diving certification.

Benefits

These positions are physically demanding and will require you to work on your feet for long periods of time as well as perform in water snorkeling and diving activities. Currently only accepting applicants from those residing in Australia with current working rights.
