About our role

Northern Star Resources are seeking a motivated and dynamic Senior Production Engineer to join our underground production engineering team at the iconic Mt Charlotte mine. Mt Charlotte is a historic operation that has been backed with significant investment, resulting in a long-term exciting future for the growing team of underground mining specialists. This role is a Kalgoorlie based residential position on 8 days on 6 days off 12-hour roster; with the unique benefit of being less than a 10 minute drive to any front door in Kalgoorlie. This challenging and dynamic role will enable an experienced mining engineer to lead a technical team of scheduling, drill and blast and graduate engineers, whilst being one of the key stakeholders that drives the safe production from the operational team.

Reporting to the Underground Production Superintendent, the successful candidate will be responsible for:

Key accountabilities:

  • Leading and co-ordinating the list of drill amp; blast and ancillary designs for the mining engineers in line with the weekly plan
  • Providing guidance and coaching to the Scheduling engineer in generating a practical and executable weekly and twelve weekly plans.
  • Main point of contact to the NSMS Mine Foreman for planning and executing the weekly plan and holding the technical team to account in providing the required mining plans and instructions.
  • Responsible for completing stope reconciliation on all Sub Level Cave, Sub Level Open Stoping and Modified Avoca Stopes, highlighting areas of risk and opportunities in future stopes
  • Provide guidance and advice to the planning engineers in the generation of the mining stope notes.
  • Accountability to ensure blast vibration monitoring, recording, and reporting is compliant with site and statutory requirements of site.
  • Hold appointed Underground Manager ticket as a Deputy to the Underground Manager as required
  • Contribute and support the Underground Manager in facilitating Department of Mines, Industry, Regulation and Safety visits, inspections and investigations.
  • Act as Production Superintendent when required to lead the technical group and support the Underground Manager and production teams.

Requirements:

Essential

  • Tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering
  • Minimum of 5 years UG hard rock mining experience
  • First Class Mine Managers Certificate of Competency or ability to acquire it (UG practical experience completed)
  • Experience using Deswik CAD and Scheduler packages
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills
  • Strong leadership skills and experience leading a diverse team of new-to-industry engineers
  • Ability to hold themselves and other accountable to their roles and responsibilities
  • Must reside within the Goldfields or be willing to relocate
  • Current Unencumbered Western Australian C Class Drivers Licence

Preferred

  • Experience working with a mining contractor
  • Experience in a mine that utilises Sub Level Caving, Modified Avoca or Sub Level Open Stoping
  • Underground Mine Rescue Experience
  • Experience using Power BI
