We’ve grown a lot lately, so the Procurement team are now looking for a seasoned Category Manager for Protein who will play a key role in sourcing and fulfilling Marley Spoon's requirements to meet our customer demand.

As a subject matter expert with a strong focus on sustainability, the Category Manager of Protein will manage the category in Australia and be responsible for; extensive market trends and insights, pricing in the domestic market, new ingredient commercialisation, negotiating competitive value and favourable commercial terms along with being accountable for all purchasing activities. This team leadership role will be vital in implementing the category strategy and ensuring procurement and quality standards are met at all times. With a focus on DIFOT, our Category Manager will take a proactive approach to identify new business opportunities in all aspects to provide growth and service to our AU brands.

Your Role

  • Building and driving a resilient supplier base that performs at high service levels.
  • Work closely with our Culinary, Operations and Finance teams to deliver fantastic customer value.
  • Assisting the head of procurement in developing a whole of company sourcing strategy.
  • Being responsible for the whole Protein Category team and their output and performance.
  • Managing the new product development and commercialisation cycle across the business.
  • Analysing and managing supplier performance on all levels.
  • Contributing to cross-functional projects such as: reducing waste, strengthening our animal welfare commitment and increasing our sustainability focus and deliverables.

Requirements

  • Tertiary qualifications, preferably with CISP, ‘MCIPS’ qualified (or studying towards MCIPS) or equivalent.
  • Minimum six years experience in a protein procurement role, preferably in a strategic decision-making capacity, holding a deep knowledge of the farm-to-plate Protein supply chain, such as Red meat, Poultry or Seafood or Ready Meals category.
  • Be customer-centric and able to develop a customer-focused plan.
  • Demonstrated ability to negotiate and influence cross-functional and external stakeholders.
  • Experience in category strategy, supplier relationship management, risk avoidance strategies and price negotiation.
  • Clear and compelling written and verbal communication.
  • Solves issues with ease and is able to prioritise, comfortable with the daily differences that arise.
  • Proven experience in an analytical, data-driven or administrative role.
  • Confidence with Google Analytics and G-suite products.
  • Naturally organised with excellent attention to detail.
  • A collaborator who works well across teams and functions, with the ability to manage a fast-paced workload with enthusiasm and a can-do attitude.
