The Position

We have three positions available for compassionate, flexible, resilient and enthusiastic people who enjoy building relationships. You can work with us in Sale with roster lines available working 67 hours or 60.5 hours per fortnight or 59 hours per fortnight in Bairnsdale.

As an Advanced Disability Support Worker, you will be assisting the House Supervisor as their 2ic. You will be considered a skilled and experienced member of your team with both direct support work responsibilities and practice support amp; supervision of other team members. This means you will be very hands on in giving support to people with a disability and enabling them to achieve their goals, increase their independence and participate in community life.

This position is a leadership role which supports the House Supervisor and team of staff in the day to day running of the group home. You will be available to work a four-week roster that includes early morning and weekend shifts.

You’ll be a guest in someone’s home and no two days will be the same. You’ll help people figure out what they love (their goals) and work towards that. It’s not about doing things for people, its about providing just enough support at just the right time to help them do things. It’s their fabulous life after all.

What you'll do

  • Help with all aspects of daily living from getting up in the morning to going to bed at night
  • You’ll promote personal choice and control for the person, empowering them along the way
  • Help people maintain their dignity while you assist with personal hygiene, showers, etc
  • Assist with household duties like cleaning, cooking and washing
  • Aid people to get to their chosen activities like social events, work, and appointments
  • Assist the House Supervisor with administration tasks

Requirements

Our Ideal Candidate

You are a natural leader who can think outside the box, has an open mind, is adaptable, flexible, empathetic, mature and has the capacity to deal with unexpected or challenging situations. You are a quick learner with strong interpersonal and communication skills and pride yourself on providing exceptional service and support to all stakeholders. Previous experience as a leader in Disability Support is preferred.

You'll have

  • 3-5 years experience as a Disability Support Worker
  • An Advanced Diploma Community Sector Management, Bachelor of Applied Science (Disability) or other equivalent qualification - (this is a mandatory requirement for your application to proceed)
  • Specialised and contemporary understanding of disability and an ability to apply this theoretical knowledge to client support
  • Strong understanding of person-centred active support, positive behaviour support and its implementation within a diverse team
  • Knowledge of and skill with coaching, supervision, and planning practices
  • A passion for helping and working with people from all walks of life
  • Desire for meaningful work and comfortable providing people with daily living support
  • Willingness to learn new skills, undertake ongoing training and be part of a team
  • NDIS Workers screening Check
  • Working With Children Check
  • A valid full Australian drivers’ license
  • Current First Aid and CPR Certificate
  • COVID 19 Vaccination certificate including confirmation of booster
