The Position

This role is crucial in the efficient management and safeguarding of the finances of Residents in Supported Independent Living houses managed by Melba Support Services Australia.

  • Support House Supervisors in their management of house finances and assist with monthly account reconciliations as allocated.
  • Review and check reconciliation of House Accounts and ensure that funds are safeguarded and acquitted appropriately.
  • Assist with the transfer of funds between bank accounts as required.
  • Ensure flow of funds for all residents into the Trust Account. Resolve any non-payment issues in a timely manner limiting Melba’s debt exposure.
  • Assist / liaise with house supervisors, in the management of debit cards associated with house accounts.
  • Monitor the build-up of resident funds and liaise with staff to ensure funds are returned to the trust account.
  • Download and distribute month end bank statements for all house accounts.
  • Ensure residents have signed financial plans in place.
  • Assist in the relocation of funds for resident movements and exits.
  • Assist in the development and review of personal funds management policies, procedures and resources.
  • Petty cash reconciliations / reimbursements for house accounts.
  • Assist House Supervisors with the preparation of housekeeping budget.
  • Provide monthly statements to Administrators.
  • Maintain Access database for all residents.
  • Monitor annual audit of PFM across designated homes.
  • Assist with the maintenance and upkeep of house asset registers
  • Ensure that PFM policies and procedures are being followed
  • Ensure accurate record keeping of all PFM related transactions
  • Continual process improvement

Our Ideal Candidate will have the following skills, knowledge, values and experience:

  • Problem solving skills specifically relating to balancing and reconciling financial accounts
  • Interpersonal skills, dealing with and supporting other internal and external stakeholders involved in Finance
  • Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Computer skills Intermediate / Advance Microsoft Excel, Access database
  • Passionate about human rights
  • Flexible, resilient, and creative problem solver and initiative taker
  • Proven financial accounting system experience
  • Funds Management system experience desirable
  • Experience working within a Finance Department in a medium sized business
  • Experience in the Disability Sector
