The Position

Melba is seeking two Positive Behaviour Support Practitioners to deliver positive behaviour support services to NDIS participants in line with the Melba Way whilst ensuring a contemporary evidence-based assessment intervention, and practice frameworks. You will manage a clinical case load to ensure a person-centred approach which focuses on the protection, maintenance, and upholding of human rights, trauma informed support and ensuring that where restrictive practices are identified they are used only if necessary and are the least restrictive option and that a positive behaviour support plan demonstrates a focus on their reduction and elimination that is proved over time. Proficient practitioners will also provide supervision to other practitioners.

You may have experience working as a positive behaviour support practitioner or you are looking for a new opportunity to upskill with on-the-job training to be endorsed as a positive behaviour support practitioner. You are passionate about human rights and contemporary practice approaches with expertise in coaching staff. You must be highly flexible and adaptable and can demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills by building collaborative relationships with stakeholders and demonstrate a commitment to service excellence.

You’ll have:

  • Previous experience in disability service delivery and management together with developing a range of support plans/protocols or previous experience working as a positive behaviour support practitioner
  • Previous experience supporting people who display behaviours of protest, in line with a person-centred, positive behaviour support approach
  • Working knowledge of the Disability Act 2006 (Vic) and the NDIS Quality and Safeguarding framework, as relevant to the use and reporting of restrictive practices
  • Demonstrated ability to provide advice, support, coaching, and mentoring to staff in person centred active support and positive behaviour support through a trauma informed lens
  • Demonstrated ability to influence and work collaboratively with a range of stakeholders including peers, employees, external organisations, funding bodies and government agencies
  • Ability to work holistically; recognising the value and contribution of all, with mind to cross-discipline appreciation and collaboration
  • Flexibility to meet the needs of the role such as travel requirements, time of work and duties required
  • High level Communication skills - written and verbal
  • Strong Creative and lateral approaches to thinking and problem-solving
  • High level organisational and time management skills with a proven ability to prioritise, meet deadlines and work autonomously
