Marley Spoon is bringing delightful, market fresh and easy cooking back to the people. Our chefs create inspiring and mouth watering recipes every week. Our customers select what they would like to cook and we deliver the recipes and all the ingredients they need. We use technology to reinvent the food supply chain while reducing unethical food waste and directly connecting consumers with quality producers. In order to achieve this, we are solving challenging problems in taste profiling, behaviour prediction and real-time logistics.
But in the end it's simple: We started Marley Spoon because we love cooking and we love eating.
We need someone for Melbourne’s purchasing team who will report to the Regional Supply Manager. The purchasing team is expected to provide excellent customer service to our internal stakeholders (timeliness, commitment and proactivity) where they work cooperatively with shared purpose and promote collaboration.
The purchasing team serve the best interests in our overall professional purchasing practices and act ethically, and with integrity, discretion, honesty and professionalism.
Expectations of the role
- Forecasting and ordering items to cater to production requirements across the fresh produce (fruit and vegetables) food category.
- Support the end-to-end food supply chain by driving service, quality, and continuous improvements
- Daily communication and collaboration with suppliers, production, and operations teams to ensure production efficiencies and constant improvements
- Support the creation and development of a diverse range of purchasing tools like ERP systems, Excel, Google Sheets, Platform app builders (e.g. Zoho Creator, Foods Connected)
- Gather, manipulate, and transform data from different sources to generate reports and improve the efficiency and accuracy of several workflows for the purchasing team.
- Analyze usage and wastage costs to develop strategies to reduce food waste and eliminate shortfalls.
- Track and maintain various reports related to supplier performance (eg. Foods Connected) and action follow up with suppliers
- Review and action invoice approvals and resolve any supplier payment discrepancies
- Support, train and advise other teams and colleagues on analytics inquiries, driving operational excellence across the board.
- Analysis of inventory and stock, including analyzing detailed records of inventory use to ensure business processes are executed as designed and are achieving desired outcomes.

Requirements
- Must be able to do 6am starts
- Excellent computer skills (Excel, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint).
- Proficiency or familiarity with ERP systems would be favourable.
- Critical thinking and negotiation skills.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to develop and plan efficient ordering processes, based on MOQ (Minimum order quantities), lead times and shelf life.
- Ability to work as part of a small but collaborative team.
- Able to take ownership of categories, including aspects like waste, leftovers, emergency purchasing etc.
