Insurance is one of the world’s least digitally mature industries - for years it’s remained confusing, paper-based and heavily intermediated. So we launched in 2016 to build a global, AI-powered insurance company that digitises the entire insurance process, making it transparent, less costly and more reliable. We’re already live in Australia and will be launching in New Zealand in June 2022 (with our insurance partner Tower). We’re also expanding into the UK, with our first team members on the ground.

What you’ll do:

The Operations team at Open is fully responsible for our end-to-end customer experience from assisted sales, to policy management, to claims. We’ve developed a number of different products to make this experience as seamless as possible including:

  • ‘Central’ - our proprietary owned system for managing policies and customers, which our 50 person operational team uses
  • ‘Instant Claims’ - the algorithm that settles claims within seconds of lodgement
  • ‘Customer Portal’ - which enables customers to login and manage their policy
  • Integrations with third party software providers

We’re looking to significantly invest further in our technology, which will allow us to scale from ~100,000 customers in Australia to over 1 million over three countries. This role will be fully responsible for:

  1. Articulating the vision for this technology (e.g., what it looks like, where do we build or buy etc)
  2. Building a roadmap to achieve it
  3. Assembling and leading teams of 6-10 product managers, engineers, testers, designers and analysts for a given time period to deliver on their goals

The Product Director of Operations will each report directly into our Chief Operating Officer, whilst working directly with our Chief Product Officer. They will play a significant leadership role in scaling Open.

Requirements

What you’ll bring:

Ideally, you will have experience with at least two of the following:

  • Experience in a product/technology role (e.g., head of product) where you’ve designed and lead teams to achieve goals, preferably at a fast growing startup or technology company
  • Expertise in general insurance (ideally car or home)
  • 2+ years in a high performance environment (e.g., top tier consulting, high growth startup)
  • A strategic mindset - you can conceptualise, analyse and clearly communicate strategy
  • Experience in managing complex relationships with a variety of stakeholders, often with conflicting needs and motivations
  • Comfort in leading talented individuals, with an ability to lead by example (i.e. must be an individual contributor, not only a good director)
  • An excitement to grow as a professional and support those around you to grow, too, and comfort in giving and receiving thoughtful feedback
  • You’re passionate and ready to help us build a leading insurance business
  • You'll be based or looking to relocate to Melbourne, Sydney or Auckland
