Job Description

Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor

Northern Star Resources is the global gold growth company, with three large, high margin production centre's exclusively in the tier one locations of Western Australia and Alaska, USA. Production guidance is 1.6 million ounces in the current financial year, before climbing to 2 million ounces by FY27.

The iconic KCGM operation consists of the Fimiston Open Pit (Superpit), Mt Charlotte (Underground) and the Fimiston and Gidji Processing plants, and is located adjacent to the township of Kalgoorlie, providing excellent work-home life balance to the residential work-force and sustainability for the Goldfields region.

A dynamic opportunity now exists for an experienced Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor to supervise and lead the team of mechanical maintenance technicians to KCGM standards in a safe, timely, cost effective and environmentally responsible manner to maintain plant availability.

Key accountabilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing leadership through coaching, mentoring and developmental activities to a large number of team members, driving a positive workplace culture that reflects KCGM’s Values.
  • Running and managing the crews, including employees and contractors, ensuring all maintenance activities are managed effectively with sufficient manning, equipment and parts.
  • Lead effective meetings to prepare the team to safely achieve the work of the shift ahead.
  • Review, sign-off and execute weekly maintenance schedule to ensure all maintenance activities are prioritised and managed effectively. Has the authority to prioritise jobs.
  • Assist in developing annual budget with support from the Maintenance Coordinator and Planner. Report actual costs versus budget on a monthly basis and explain variances to ensure all financial information is captured throughout the process.
  • Other key duties that are typically standard for this level position, as required.

Requirements

Essential

  • Minimum of five (5) years practical experience in a maintenance environment, preferably in mining/heavy industry.
  • Minimum of two (2) years frontline supervisory experience, preferably in a mining/ heavy industry environment.
  • Required to be on-call for the maintenance team on a shared rotating roster.
  • Required to work twelve (12) hour shifts during plant shutdown periods.
  • Trades Certificate and/or Degree in Engineering.
  • Intermediate computer software skills - MS Office Suite (MS Excel, MS Word, MS Project, MS Outlook).
  • Oracle, SAP, JDE, EMPAC or similar CMMS.
  • Leadership and/or supervisory training or experience in similar.
  • Experience in the budgeting process and effective cost management.
  • Demonstrated ability to diagnose problems and identify potential solutions.
  • Exposure to performance management of team members using ability to coach, mentor and influence others.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills enabling liaison at all levels of the organisation.
  • Must reside in the Goldfields region
  • National Police Clearance within 12 months of age
  • Current Unencumbered Western Australian C Class Drivers Licence

Preferred

  • Experience with computer-based maintenance planning/scheduling.
  • Experience working in a minerals processing plant.
  • Zero-Based Budgeting (ZBB) principles.
  • Condition monitoring practices such as oil analysis, vibration analysis, ultrasonic testing, thermography, etc.
  • Proficiency in conducting failure analysis and in the use of root cause investigation techniques.
  • Familiarity with relevant Australian Standards, Mines Safety and Inspection Regulations (MSIR), Cyanide Code.
