About the roleAs Senior Engineering Manager within our Search and Big Data squad, you will be responsible for mentoring the teams through the development and deployment of our Search API middleware, ML pipeline and Elasticsearch database. Your engineers will have in-depth knowledge of Terraform on AWS as well as experience with Python, Golang, Java, Typescript and GraphQL - so coming from this background is advantageous but not a necessity!
You will lead a high performing, agile engineering team(s) responsible for the design, development, testing, delivery and maintenance of the Search Platform and partner with product peers and business leaders to define and deliver the technology roadmap for search
To manage and architect the rollout of our product search, discovery and recommendations engine, you will be tasked with further building the team, while working with the global teams to scale at pace all event-driven/stream processing aggregation pipelines to build user personas.What you'll do:
- Building an exceptional team, attracting and retaining top talent who share the same intellectual curiosity, tenacity, and passion
- Establish a plan and execute on strategic goals by gathering pertinent business and operations information
- Arrange encourage and run regular check-ins with your team and track their progress
- Keep the bigger picture in mind and planning new/exciting features
- Ability to work with executive leadership, product, data, engineering, marketing and customers to translate consumer needs into actionable and creative work items
- Feel responsible for what you do with a strong sense of ownership: You build it, you test it, you run it, you deploy it and you support it
- Work in a fast-paced environment where priority changes occur often - be agile while hiking around waterfalls

To help us level up, you'll ideally have:
- 4 + Years experience in a managerial capacity, leading engineering teams in tech or data
- Outstanding interpersonal relationship building, employee coaching and mentoring
- Demonstrated ability to lead and develop high performing teams
- Excellent organisational management and stakeholder management skills
- Knowledge of Backend languages such as Golang, Python, Pyspark, Typescript
- Experience in managing teams that have built data solutions in cloud environments such as Azure, AWS, or GCP
Bonus points for:
- Past experience in startup environments as a founder or a key employee, such as CTO, Engineering Manager or Tech Lead.
- Working on search engines and/or data pipelines and/or event stream processing.
- Experience with Elasticsearch or any search engine system
