About the roleAs a Senior Backend Engineer within our backend for frontend and mobile app teams, you will be responsible for the development, deployment and monitoring of the many services in our backend.
Our stack is composed of: GraphQL, Elasticsearch, Golang, JSONAPI, NodeJS, Apollo, Redis, Python, terraform, NewRelic and AWS. The more of these technologies you know already, the better, but really, we are looking for someone that is able to understand and adopt to new technologies quickly. Ideally, you will have had prior experience with GraphQL backends.
To support the rollout of our product search, discovery and recommendations engine, you will be tasked with building multiple integrations with different databases and services.Your years of experience as a polyglot backend programmer, will ensure the success of the broader team to provide a world-class search and recommendations experience.What you'll do and support
- Be hands-on with all of our backends to optimise efficiency, and focus on long term global scalability
- Support our replicated Elasticsearch infrastructure
- Work on greenfields projects such as a new pipeline for ingesting clickstream data to better understand our users
- Deploy and manage AWS lambda and ECS infrastructure (terraform).
- Gain a holistic understanding of the whole system (Elasticsearch, GraphQL, Golang, Python, AWS ECS)
- Improve monitoring of the entire infrastructure (NewRelic)
- Identify and remediate pain points in the application lifecycle
- Recommend, assist and implement architectural changes to improve performance and reliability
- Explore new technologies and share your findings with the wider global engineering teams
- Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement and innovation
- Work in a team with a "customer first" and team first mentality.
To help us level up, you'll ideally have:
- 4 years+ experience as a Backend Engineer
- 4 years+ experience with either Python / NodeJS / Golang / Java
- 4 years+ experience with database technologies (RDS, Aurora, Elasticsearch, Redis)
- Experience with AWS Cloud computing (AWS Lambda and ECS)
- Experience with DevOps networking (Terraform, CloudFormation, Docker)
- Experience with monitoring tools (NewRelic, Sumo Logic, AWS Cloudwatch)
