We celebrate uniqueness and whatever makes you, you and encourage everyone who wants to help us transform the way the world designs, to join us on this journey. We value all different types of experiences. If you don’t think you quite meet all of the qualifications, we’d still love to hear from you.
About UsAt Canva, our mission is to democratise design and empower creativity for anyone and everyone, on every platform. Inspired by a team of talented thinkers, an amazing culture and a remarkable growth trajectory we’re out to change the world, one design at a time.
Since launch in August 2013, we have grown exponentially, amassing over 60 million monthly active users across 190 different countries who have created more than 6 Billion designs. We are one of the world’s fastest-growing technology companies and we have only achieved about 1% of what we want to do.
About the teamThe People Group’s mission is to create the most effective and engaged company in the world. The People Development Centre of Excellence is a new team at Canva that consists of HR generalists and specialists that design and deliver transformative people strategies and programs for talent identification (internal), development, engagement, and movement. So far we’ve built a global company-wide career framework, job architecture system, and performance management process... and we are just getting started!
Our mission is to deliver strategies, products, and programs that energise our employees and foster an experience where everyone can design the best work of their lives. We do this by understanding our internal people development landscape and cultural context, researching new ideas and data-backed practices, reimagining traditional People Development programs and processes, collaborating and designing with partners across the company, and delivering innovative solutions at scale.
About the roleWe are seeking an outstanding Talent amp; OD Specialist to lead the evolution of Canva’s competency framework (growth and development model) and embed it within all our related programs and experiences across the company.
Our competency framework forms the backbone for how our Canvanauts understand their roles, where and how to grow their skills, and how and when to seize new challenges and opportunities for their long-term development and impact.
You’ll be the main driver for this critical body of work and will work closely with organisational leaders and HR partners (Talent Acquisition, Learning amp; Development, Internal Coaching, Total Rewards, People Partners) to ensure embedding across the employee lifecycle (hiring, onboarding, and more).
You will continuously hold a high bar for the employee experience of this foundational work, such that it is seamlessly driving and inspiring growth that is grounded in Canva’s core competencies (skills) and values.
What you’ll doYou’ll be the owner, thought leader, and rallier behind further embedding Canva’s growth and development model across the business, and improving both its user experience and effectiveness in driving the growth of 2,000+ (and growing!) Canvanauts.

Evolve and embed for scale
  • You’ll crystallise and align others on Canva’s guiding philosophies and vision for employee growth and development.
  • You’ll assess and determine current opportunities, and connect the dots amongst a diverse range of feedback, data, and thought leadership to best re-energise and embed this body of work.
  • You’ll research, recommend, and implement alternative, innovative solutions and methods where we can move the needle.
Drive strategy with action
  • As the owner of multiple frameworks and workstreams, you collaborate with business leaders and other COE and HR partners, to understand and identify needs, prioritise and solve accordingly, and implement any related initiatives or products.
  • You provide clear direction to cross-functional partners while being the ultimate decision maker for this program and body of work.
  • You thoughtfully and consistently develop and implement the program change, communication and engagement strategy
Key goals for the first 6 months
  • Measure the effectiveness of Canva’s growth and development model across the business: interviewing and understanding feedback and needs from key partners, surfacing use-cases, etc.
  • Surface and share insights and recommendations that detail what’s working and what isn’t via a report on the effectiveness of Canva’s growth and development model.
  • Prioritise and plan a roadmap to strategically and consistently evolve key gaps and opportunity area
