Smart Wires is currently looking for a Customer Solution Engineer based in Australia to support the process of collaboratively developing solutions with customers and energy stakeholders such as the network operators, network system planners, AEMO, the AER and energy project developers.

The Position

The Customer Solutions Engineer will report to General Manager, APAC.

The Customer Solutions Engineer will support the process of collaboratively developing solutions with our customers and other energy stakeholders such as the grid operators, planning agencies, regulators and energy projects developers.

This role will partner with account leads, transmission planners, analysts, transmission operators, and the sales team to search for and quantify the value that Smart Wires solutions can provide to customers in the APAC region and support the design of specific applications. Qualified candidates are optimistic, energetic, excellent communicators, and thrive when working as part of a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary team.

Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering with substantive practical experience of power system engineering you will ideally have exposure to network operations or network planning and grid connection gained in an Australasian context. Possessing a collaborative approach, you are an optimistic, energetic, excellent communicator, and thrive when working as part of a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary team. Experience in supporting sales or external stakeholder engagement teams will be highly regarded.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Support the account leads in identifying the value Smart Wires’ solutions can provide to our customers.
  • Partner with the customers’ operations, planning, and design teams and Smart Wires’ resources to support development of the appropriate Smart Wires’ solution to meets the customer’s needs.
  • Ensure the proposed solutions are the best available answer for our customers while faithfully representing Smart Wires’ technical capabilities.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to develop proposal documents, bid submissions and technical papers.
  • Identify new opportunities for Smart Wires' technology via customer engagement and research on grid challenges and Tamp;D expansion plans located in the public domain.
  • Represent Smart Wires at external forums, meetings, and industry events.


Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering, preferably with an emphasis in Power Systems
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in transmission planning, transmission operations, and/or energy markets
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to work with various internal and external technical stakeholders
  • Innovative and creative problem solving skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in teams
  • Self-motivated and willing to take initiative
  • Ability to work remotely
  • Ability to travel up to 50% regularly within Australia
  • Travel to Smart Wires Headquarters in San Francisco may be required up to four times per year (once per quarter)

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Extensive network of contacts in the power sector in APAC
  • Familiarity with the full range of transmission studies, including steady-state, generation deliverability, protection, stability, and production cost
  • Experience supporting sales efforts, with a preference for individual’s adept at interacting directly with customers to win multi-stakeholder deal
  • Experience in FACTs technology, project management, transmission line/station design, and/or transmission construction
