Job Description

Seeking a passionate and enthusiastic support worker to provide innovative, flexible, person centred overnight support to people living with mental illness.

Full citizenship for all people living with a mental illness in Australian society

About the Role

  • Part Time
  • Maximum Term Contract until 30 June 2025
  • CSD Level 2 from $63,670 - $68,264 per annum (pro rata) + super + salary packaging
  • 24/7 Service will be working night shifts (6 nights per fortnight)
  • Based at Mental health Step Up Step Down facility, Davidson Street, Geraldton, WA

The Geraldton Step Up/Step Down Service is a 10 bed, maximum 28 day stay facility, that provides a Step Up/Step Down option for people who are becoming unwell or are still recovering from an acute mental illness and need a short period of additional support and consolidation to complement their treatment and support. The Geraldton Step Up/Step Down is operated by Neami in partnership with WA Country Health Service. The Step Up/Step Down Service will accept referrals from the Mid West region. During their stay consumers are assisted to develop a wellness plan including relapse prevention. The facility is staffed 24 hours per day, 7 days per week and operates on a 7 day rotating roster consisting of morning and afternoon and evening shifts.

As a Community Rehabilitation and Support Worker (CSRW) you will provide tailored support to people experiencing mental health issues to meet their individual goals and needs. This position is specifically for overnight work in which there is an active (awake) and passive (sleep) component of the work.

Core duties:

  • Provide direct practical support to consumers overnight to ensure they feel safe and supported
  • Assist consumers in their evening routine and offer support in the event of distress overnight
  • Work within a recovery and trauma-based model
  • Maintain records and resources
  • Engage consumers and develop trusting and professional relationships
  • Work within a collaborative team approach

What will you bring to the role?

  • Relevant transferable experience in a similar role
  • Ability and willingness to work effectively as part of a team
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of the recovery model for mental health

Mandatory requirements:

  • Current WA Working with Children Check required before commencement of work (employee responsibility)
  • Australian Working Rights
  • Drivers licence
  • Police check (refer to PD) disclosable outcomes considered
