The Opportunity

We have a permanent position within our Systems Engineering Group in Canberra to join our growing team of expert engineers, supporting our clients to deliver ground-breaking capability improvements to Defence.

Our current opportunity will utilise your engineering skills to help identify and support cutting edge technologies and develop new innovations that could provide capability enhancements to Defence and help grow the Australian defence industry. This opportunity requires a combination of engineering knowledge, commercial awareness, successful project delivery and understanding of Defence’s needs.

Ongoing role

The ongoing role will be to support the development of maritime power and propulsion system knowledge and experience within key defence projects and our Australian staff. This will include developing the technical knowledge, delivery of project and engineering support and advice, and liaison with appropriate professional bodies. The person in this role will also be expected to mentor and develop the skills of client personnel (e.g. Defence and APS staff) and our Australian employees, drawing on their technical, project and engineering experience and knowledge

Requirements

Mandatory requirements Please only apply for this role if you meet the following:
  • Experience managing the development of early-stage innovations (TRL 3 to 6);
  • Hold current Australian Defence security clearance (minimum NV1) or equivalent UK clearance;
  • Australian Citizenship and/or UK citizen with current eligibility for permanent residency (to maintain Defence clearance);
  • Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical or Electronic engineering;
  • Minimum of 3 years working as a consultant to Defence;
  • Minimum of 10 years working in the Defence industry;
  • Member of an internationally recognized Engineering Professional body or Project Management organisation; and
  • Currently residing in Australia.

Highly desirable requirements

The successful candidate should also meet the following:

  • Postgraduate degree in engineering;
  • Experience in the Naval, Land or Air domains; and
  • Strong Project Management experience.
