Job Description

The Japan Foundation, Sydney, promotes cultural exchange between Japan and Australia as one of 25 overseas offices of The Japan Foundation, which was established in 1972 in Tokyo. Our office organizes and participates in a diverse range of cultural events to provide Australians with opportunities to experience Japanese art and culture, and support Japanese studies and Japanese language education in Australia through a variety of programs.

We are currently seeking a highly motivated person for the position of PR amp; Communication Coordinator.

You will be responsible for (but not limited to) the following tasks:

(1) Developing and coordinating the relationships with key stakeholders, including Japan experts, cultural institutions, academic institutions, sponsors and JPF members.

(2)Overseeing all PR for JPF Sydney, including social media, e-newsletters, media releases

(3)Overseeing all digital and print PR and marketing materials and check for adherence to branding and style guidelines

(4) Collaborating with all departments to develop and implement internal and external communications campaigns

(5) Overseeing the JPF Sydney’s website and ensuring that the website is up-to-date and that visual presentation across all pages is consistent as well as assist with technical support for the JPF Sydney’s website and escalate to web support as necessary

(6)Managing PR of owned channels and collaborating with PR amp; marketing agency for the Japanese Film Festival

(7)Managing the Directory of Japanese Arts and Culture

(8)Supporting preparation and implementation of workshops, talk events, etc. as necessary

(9) Processing applications and overseeing work experience and intern students

(10) Undertaking other projects from time to time as directed by the Director


Five days a week (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday), from 9:00am to 5:00pm in the office (Level 4, Central Park, 28 Broadway, Chippendale 2008 NSW). Weekend work is occasionally required due to events.

Requirements

(1)Public Relations:

  • Experience in Public Relations and/or Communications (essential)
  • Knowledge of online technology, in particular social media and other emerging trends
  • High level in copywriting skills (essential) and copy editing experience (desirable)

(2) Project Management:

  • Experience in project management, particularly publicity events (desirable)

(3) Communication:

  • Ability to communicate effectively with people from a wide variety of cultural and linguistic backgrounds, and to work cooperatively as a team member in a highly professional manner. o Stakeholder management skills and the ability to work autonomously to achieve effective outcomes which are on-brief and reflect brand and stakeholder input.

(4) Language:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English (native level).
  • Intermediate written and verbal communication skills in Japanese (JLPT 3+ is essential).

(5) Technical:

  • Proficient in WordPress CMS, Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint,Google Drive, Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Mail
  • Proficient in social media channels, including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram
  • Proficient in newsletter applications, including MailChimp
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite, such as Photoshop and InDesign
  • Experience in Google and Facebook analytics
  • Basic photography skills in composition
  • Experience in the operation of technical equipment for use in public programs including projectors, PA systems, and microphones (desirable).

(6) Miscellaneous:

  • Highly motivated with a strong sense of responsibility along with the flexibility to work in a fast-paced team setting as well take initiative when working independently.
  • Ability to juggle multiple tasks with competing deadlines.\
  • Interest in Japanese art and cinema.
  • Australian national or permanent resident visa holders only.

Benefits

65-70K (depending on experience) including bonus equivalent to one month’s salary plus 9.5% superannuation. Permanent appointment subject to a 3-month probationary period. Working conditions (hours, entitlements) apply.
