Due to our expansion, we’re seeking an experienced solicitor to join our Australian team as Legal Counsel. This is a newly created role which will lead and manage the delivery of legal and compliance services to the business.
With a passion for in-house life, you'll work with internal clients as a true business partner, bridging the gap between business and law. This role will have a key focus on technology contracting, privacy, compliance, cybersecurity, and corporate law.
This is truly a blank canvass, you will take ownership of building our legal department from the ground up.
This is a part-time, permanent position.
Responsibilities
- Assume responsibility for ensuring that the company conducts its business in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
- Serve as a primary lawyer/legal advisor on all major business transactions, including customer contracts, vendor contracts, acquisitions, capital raises, and partnerships.
- Assist with data protection and privacy matters, including GDPR compliance.
- Implement a legal compliance program to help ensure the business is appropriately educated on the requirements of the internal governance system.
- Advise and assist with dispute resolution, internally and externally.
- Support Employment Hero’s commercial team as they sell, market, distribute, and support Employment Hero products and services globally.
Requirements
- Qualified Solicitor.
- 3+ years' PQE.
- Experience gained from a leading Law Firm or In-house legal team (preferably at a software/technology company) with a focus on Corporate, Commercial, or Technology law highly desirable.
- Solid experience in contract negotiation.
- Strong communication skills - must be comfortable getting on the phone with prospects and customers.
- Pragmatic, business-minded lawyer who is risk-aware (not risk-averse) and can proactively identify and analyse opportunities and risks.
