About the Role

  • FT/Part Time positions available
  • Location: Hendon, Morphett Vale and Salisbury including flex working from home (by negotiation)
  • IHBSS provides a 7 days a week service from 8am 8pm


The Community Rehabilitation and Support Workers will work within the Intensive Home Support Services (IHBSS) program. IHBSS is aimed at people aged 16 years and over who have experienced acute episodes of mental illness. In practice, people often have a range of other complex needs as well. Each person is provided with up to three months of intensive support in their home either after leaving a hospital as a way of ‘stepping down’, or ‘stepping up’ to receiving support as a way to avoid a hospital admission. Referrals are made through community mental health teams.

IHBSS is provided 7 days a week from 8am-8pm. The hours of service will reflect the needs of the consumers and therefore some extended hours coverage is expected. Flexible working locations and working from home arrangements by negotiation with Manager.

Hours of service will reflect the needs of the consumers and therefore some extended hours coverage may be expected:

  • PT shifts for the new UMHCC Aftercare service are generally from Monday to Friday 9:00am to 1:30pm; Saturday and Sunday 9:00am to 12:00pm
  • General IHBSS hours of service will be 9:00am to 5:30pm Monday to Friday with some weekend shifts and some early and late shifts between the hours of 8am to 8pm
  • Predominant hours of service are between 9am 5:30pm weekdays


Community Rehabilitation and Support Workers provide a range of rehabilitation and support to consumers, tailored to meet their individual needs. You will work closely with clinical case managers and other community partner organisations in order to deliver the best possible comprehensive service to consumers.

Core duties

  • Provide direct support and rehabilitation to consumers within their community
  • Working with community partners
  • Engage consumers and develop trusting and professional relationships
  • Collect, collate and maintain data on consumer contact

What will you bring to the role?

  • Relevant experience in a similar role
  • Ability and willingness to work effectively as part of a team, to meet program goals and objectives.
  • Knowledge of complex mental health and drug and alcohol issues.
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills
  • Be a team player
  • Knowledge of the recovery model

Mandatory requirements:

  • Current Working with Children Check
  • Australian Working Rights
  • Drivers licence
  • Police check (refer to PD) disclosable outcomes considered
  • Suitable vehicle (insured to a minimum level covering 3rd party fire and theft and registration)
  • Mental Health (or equivalent Human Services or Community Services) qualification of Certificate IV level or above, or complete such a qualification within 2 years of your commencement of employment.
