Senior Geotechnical Engineer
Northern Star Resources have a dynamic and rewarding opportunity for an experienced Senior Geotechnical Engineer, to supervise the delivery of effective and safe production related Underground Geotechnical services, ensuring the safe achievement of budget and Life of Mine (LOM) targets., at our world-class KCGM Operation.

Working a 5:2/4:3 roster, this permanent, Kalgoorlie-based residential role, allows for great work-life balance, and an optimal lifestyle in the Goldfields.
Key duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to;
- Supervise a team of Geotechnical Engineers and Technicians to ensure that production-related Geotechnical duties are executed in a safe, efficient, and timely manner.
- Assist and supervise Geotechnical project Engineers to deliver project outcomes in the time frames required.
- Oversee the coordination and execution of the slope and excavation management program, in accordance with the Ground Control Management Plan, to ensure the identification of and neutralisation of hazards.
- Assist the Geotechnical Superintendent in ensuring the delivery of relevant training, coaching, positive mentorship, and other on-the-job support to the Geotechnical Department to ensure ongoing professional development and the creation and maintenance of appropriate succession pools.
- Prepare Statutory and Ownership reports as required to ensure the provision of accurate Geotechnical data for subsequent review.
- Oversee operational safety from a Geotechnical perspective, in order to meet safety and corporate compliance.

Requirements
Essential
- A minimum five (5) years’ experience in a Geotechnical role within multiple operations, with at least two (2) being in an Underground Hard Rock operation.
- A tertiary qualification (minimum degree level) in Mine Engineering / Geology with appropriate Geotechnical experience.
- A minimum two (2) years’ experience in a Geotechnical supervisory role.
- Experience with Vulcan and Rocscience software packages.
- Demonstrated proficiency and knowledge of current Geotechnical monitoring techniques for open pit or underground mines as appropriate.
- Demonstrated experience in Geotechnical open pit and/or underground ground support.
- Experience with risk assessment of Geotechnical hazards.
- Proven experience in Geotechnical design (wedge, planar and rotational analyses for slopes and/or stress modelling, design chart application for underground design).
- Ability to think strategically and commercially, approach solutions creatively and consider organisation-wide impacts.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proven organisational and time management skills.
- Relevant Professional Association membership.
- Must reside locally in the Goldfields region, or willing to relocate for residential roles
- National Police Clearance (valid within the last 12 months)
- Current, unencumbered Western Australia C Class, Manual Drivers License
Preferred
- Demonstrated experience in pit wall blasting techniques and optimisation (for Open Pit roles).
- Experience in data collection methods including pit face/ heading mapping, photogrammetry, diamond drilling and rock testing.
- Post-graduate studies in Geotechnical Engineering, e.g. Rock Mechanics
