The role:
As an Edge Device Software Engineer, you will develop and maintain technologies and applications deployed at the edge of a massively-distributed system to securely integrate a vast array of traffic control devices and sensors, manage real-time communications protocols, perform complex event processing, and action responses in fractions of a second. You will assemble and configure analogues of roadside device environments using wide area network communications and either real-world device hardware or emulators to validate site functionality, reliability and performance. You will analyse and improve the reliability of systems in production, diagnosing issues and working to improve product resilience, scalability and performance.
Requirements
You:
- Experience working in a software-as-a-service environment that utilises DevOps and SRE practices (with an emphasis on automation) to continuously develop, test, deploy and support scalable, highly available software solutions
- Capable working in both Windows and Linux environments, and familiar with either private/on-prem or public cloud infrastructure such as Amazon Web Services (AWS)
- Proficient in developing components, applications and APIs using a range of languages and technologies such as C++, C#/.NET Core, Python, unit test frameworks, application containerisation, message queues, etc
- Accustomed to working with open-source platforms, components and libraries including an awareness of different OSS license types and associated constraints
- Aware of the specific challenges involved in working in compute, memory and/or network constrained environments, including algorithm optimisation and data compression
- Familiar with data networking, internet protocols and application interface technologies such as serial I/O, HDLC, REST, JSON, XML and Protobuf
- Comfortable with interpreting data communications protocol specifications and implementing robust handlers, serialisers and deserialisers to achieve integrations
- Competent with source code control, artefact repository and CI/CD pipeline technologies, and tools such as Bitbucket, Jira and Confluence
- Tertiary-level qualified in Software Engineering, Information Technology or Computer Science, or equivalent experience
