About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and motivated casual Deckhand all-rounder to join our team at Journey Beyond Cruises, Darwin. This is a casual position for the duration of the Top End Dry Season (March through to Mid-December 2021) with training commencing in March 2021. This position is primarily responsible for preparing the vessels for transportation of guests, safe securing and departure of vessels as well as the safety and comfort of all guests on board whilst delivering high quality services and experiences. The role is critical for assisting with Deck, Maintenance, Engineering, Refit and Famp;B tasks.

Key responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • Provide high quality customer service and experiences to guests on-board;
  • Perform constant deck rounds and assist with any vessel engineering, maintenance and refit needs;
  • Assist with food and beverage service such as bar operations assisting the Hospitality Operations teams;
  • Assist guests with moving around vessel ensuring they are safe;
  • Control mooring lines, and assist with any drills/rescues and lookout duties when required;
  • Working with other crew and Master to make berthing as smooth as possible as per procedures;
  • Perform tasks to follow safety procedures as per vessel SMS; and
  • Daily cleaning duties, including general vessel cleaning and housekeeping.


About You

The ideal candidate will be a team player with a positive "can-do" attitude, demonstrated Deckhand and Hospitality experience, and a passion for delivering memorable and unique guest experiences. The successful candidate will have relevant marine/engineering qualifications and experience performing engineering and maintenance tasks.

Requirements

  • Have a minimum of 1-year in a Deckhand (minimum ESS or GPH qualification) with hands-on engineering, maintenance and refit experience is essential;
  • Coxswain/Master/MED/Radio Operator attainments will be highly regarded;
  • Possess current First Aid, CPR, Oxygen Therapy and RSA attainments;
  • Highly self-motivated, with great energy and customer service skills;
  • Extensive Food amp; Beverage experience and ability to perform such duties to a high standard;
  • Excellent personal presentation and interpersonal skills;
  • Sound in-water/swimming skills and physical fitness;
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills and ability to thrive under pressure; and
  • Ability to work flexible hours including weekends and public holidays.
