Who we are looking for

The role of the Buyer is to work along with cross-functional teams to drive the product development process.

Reporting to the Head Of Buying, as the Buyer you will be responsible for helping achieve the business growth strategy, by overseeing the end-to-end product development process, managing all aspects of product assortments and range plans to bring the optimum product ranges to market, accountable for cost and quality.

Working closely with the Sourcing team to determine effective development strategies across all product categories, and regularly assessing the capabilities of the supply base.

Working closely with the Category Sales Manager, marketing and visual merchandise teams to ensure the products brought to market are priced and marketed appropriately online and in-store to achieve optimum consumer return. You will also be responsible for assessing consumer insights, researching customer feedback and using the results to determine future product strategies.

Working collaboratively with the Category and Sourcing teams, to ensure the product ranges align with the company’s strategic sourcing strategies, margin and inventory targets, quality standards, CSR, and pricing architecture.

As a key member of this tight knit, growing business, you will be hands-on throughout the product development process, negotiating with suppliers and factories to secure favourable terms and costs, establishing initiatives to deliver efficiency gains and trading the ranges to achieve financial goals, and optimise continued performance.

In order to succeed in this role, you will be a high-energy, self-starter with strong business acumen. You will possess extensive product knowledge and an eye for design and innovation in the home and furniture space.

You have

  • An established buyer with strong technical product knowledge in Home Décor / Furniture categories, or a senior designer/developer with strong commercial acumen.
  • Proven accountability for managing large departments working in a leadership role for a retail business.
  • Proven capabilities in driving growth and profitability within the Home / Furniture market through product innovation.
  • An out-of-the-box thinker with a strategic mindset and innovative ideas for bringing new products to market.
  • Extensive product development experience.
  • Excellent analytical skills and ability to problem solve.
  • Strong communication and influencing skills with extensive internal and external stakeholder management experience.
  • Strong business acumen and trading ability.

You will

  • Utilising extensive product knowledge and trend awareness to develop strong product assortments.
  • Working with the Head of Sourcing to identify factory/supplier capabilities around innovation and production.
  • Develop optimum seasonal product ranges aligned to the brand DNA, and in-line with GM targets and sales budgets.
  • Build seasonal assortment plans to ensure the optimum range depth and width, working with the planning team to ensure the appropriate quantities are ordered across all categories in the range.
  • Oversee end-to-end product development process from initial concept to design, quality, production to GTM strategy; managing international and external stakeholders to ensure optimum products are brought to market on time.
  • Working with the supply base to set quality standards and sustainability tolerances to be met or exceeded by factories and suppliers
  • Manage factories and vendor relationships between sourcing, design and production.
  • Working in conjunction with the sourcing team to negotiate costings and payment terms to achieve company margin and net-working targets.
  • Streamline buying processes to create efficiencies across end-to-end product development processes.
  • Delivery of sales and profit, working with Planning to ensure stock turn/inventory levels are consistently optimised.
