Systems Administrator

Northern Star Resources have a fantastic and rewarding opportunity for an experienced Systems Administrator, to join the Commercial team, at our world-class KCGM Superpit Operation.

Working a 5/2/4/3 roster, this permanent, Kalgoorlie-based residential role, allows for great work-life balance, and an optimal lifestyle in the Goldfields.

Sitting within the Commercial function, this position provides technical skills and support across KCGM information technology infrastructure to achieve high availability, maximum effectiveness, strong security of primary and secondary infrastructure systems, as well as delivering high quality Service Desk incident and request resolution to KCGM.

Key accountabilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • In a team environment, investigate, analyse and resolve assigned infrastructure incidents, problems and service requests, so that assigned incident ‘work arounds’, problems and requests are actioned efficiently and completed in the shortest practical time, according to priority.
  • Ensure all actions undertaken to resolve an assigned incident, problem or request are recorded in the IT job management system and update information when omissions are identified.
  • Conduct daily tasks as per work allocated in the system queues, or from phone enquiries, from the service desk to provide support for KCGM users, this involves troubleshooting and problem solving user issues. This includes providing one on one training for users when requested.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance, by conducting scheduled inspections on logs and events to identify actual and potential bottlenecks on systems. This process identifies current and future work that may be required. In addition, conduct preventative maintenance on the desktop fleet, to ensure issues are dealt with, and to ensure all software upgrades occur, as required. This enables standard operating environments to be set up for all new and current users.
  • Monitor and maintain server units to ensure high availability for all users. Support and maintain all peripheral, telecommunications and networking equipment to ensure ease of user access and availability.
  • Schedule, conduct and test all backups completed, including managing the back-up strategy, to ensure disaster recovery, business continuity and Sarbanes Oxley (SOX) compliance, in order to meet the corporate and legal requirements.
  • Lead through collaboration and consultation on identified projects to ensure ongoing continuous improvement initiatives are implemented within a timely manner.

Requirements

Essential

  • A minimum of five (5) years’ experience within a similar role;
  • Tertiary qualification within the relevant IT field;
  • Ability to provide a high level of customer service;
  • Ability to work in a team based environment;
  • Windows Server, Active Directory and Group Policy, VMware, Microsoft Exchange;
  • Networking and routing knowledge including TCP/IP, LAN, WAN, DHCP, DNS, VPN;
  • Microsoft SCCM, SOE implementations, software deployment strategies.
  • Must reside locally in the Goldfields region.
  • National Police Clearance (valid within last 12 months).
  • Current Unencumbered Western Australian C Class Drivers Licence.
