At Canva, we create tools that empower the world to design. Our mission is to democratise design and empower creativity for anyone and everyone, on every platform! Inspired by a team of talented thinkers, an amazing culture and remarkable growth trajectory we’re out to change the world, one design at a time.

Since launch in August 2013 we have grown exponentially, amassing over 40 million active users across 190 different countries who have created more than 4 Billion designs. We are one of the world’s fastest-growing technology companies and we have only achieved about 1% of what we are capable of!

The Team

Canva’s People Team is on a mission to build the most effective and engaged company in the world! Our success is in finding, growing and empowering the best engineers, designers, product managers, growth marketers and operators to ship incredible products for our global design community.

The Role And You

We are looking for a global workforce specialist to join the People Group. As a global company with customers and users from all over the world, this role is positioned to help Canva plan for and execute on its people growth strategy whilst navigating complex regulatory requirements, as we continue to expand our workforce globally.

This role is a blend of global mobility and workforce management. You’ll be the main point of contact leading the expansion of Canva’s workforce into new countries, and working across a number of our internal teams such as People, Finance, Tax & Legal to ensure we can effectively manage all legal, taxation and compliance matters that affect international employment.

A large part of this role involves the management of employee and contractor populations across international borders. You’ll thrive if you love working in a fast-moving, fluid and global environment, navigating the complexities and challenges of a highly mobilised workforce across a number of countries all over the world.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Legal team and external advisors to facilitate the global expansion of our workforce. This includes setting up new offices, and ensuring Canva complies with national labour laws and employee entitlements across various jurisdictions.
  • Liaise with our PEO provider to access talent in new countries, to build understanding of new regulatory environments and effectively manage employment liability, visas, payroll and compliance matters.
  • Maintain oversight over our global workforce, the types of work they engage in, and local regulations that apply.
  • Create strong internal processes and policies when it comes to the management of our contingent workforce, and works with business stakeholders to ensure alignment and implementation of those processes.
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of our global mobility strategy.
  • Assist with transfers and secondments between offices and countries.
  • Collaborate with our Tax, Legal, Finance & Security teams as well as external advisors to mitigate employment risks and costs in an environment of ever evolving regulatory and taxation requirements.

You’ll love this job if..

  • You’re highly organised. Whether managing a handful of employees between two locations, or hundreds across several territories, you’re able to juggle numerous legislative and procedural issues at any given time.
  • You’re informed: Since compliance requirements, business needs, and even political factors can change overnight, you proactively keep up with local and global trends.
  • You’re collaborative. You’re able to work with stakeholders from various parts of the company and drive successful outcomes cross-functionally.
  • You’re pragmatic. You keep an eye on the bigger picture, whilst balancing the need to get things done.

Key Requirements:

  • 5+ years of demonstrated experience in international operations, global mobility or distributed workforce.
  • Knowledge and expertise in establishing processes related to global workforce practices.
  • Experience in contingent workforce management or employment law is highly desirable.

Benefits:

  • Competitive salary on offer, plus equity options
  • Flexible working hours and a hybrid remote/office work model
