A crucial ingredient to empowering the world to design is education. One way we’re aiming to do this is through our new Canva Foundation Education to Employment Project. This aims to equip youth living in poverty with basic graphic design skills to empower them to get a job in the digital economy and earn a living wage. This project is in very early stages, so there is amazing potential to shape the future impact and trajectory of this initiative and change the lives of individuals in this program.
Another way we do this is through our more general Design Education that aims to give people who don’t consider themselves ‘designers’ the creative confidence to achieve their goals.

About the Education to Employment Team
Our goal is to equip our students with effective and sustainable life skills to earn a living wage and make change in their community.
Our team is responsible for creating and delivering content and training materials for our program. This includes our technical skills training (pointed technical training aimed at equipping individuals with specific skills needed for a specific role and/or sector) and our soft skills training (job readiness skills such as internet and digital literacy, communication etc).
About the Role
- As a Core Design Curriculum Designer, you will: Pursue design excellence through teaching
- Create an effective graphic design basics course from scratch that maps to desired learning outcomes, for specific design roles
- Leverage experts across the Canva Team to help with the creation of course content where relevant
- Work closely with Canva U to create and incorporate the soft skills components (job readiness skills) of the course. Canva U is Canva’s internal university, where employees can access a range of learning and information to improve their effectiveness, from specialty skill development, to onboarding, coaching and personal development.
- Collaborate internally with teams such as Design School, Creators, Community and others to leverage their expertise and design course content where possible, and share the content you create with them, where relevant
- Assist with building the pilot program, including the learning platform selection (LMS or other), content delivery model, onboarding process, assessment model and modules, feedback guides etc.
- Help us build an effective and scalable graphic design education course (and courses on other related topics in the future)
Empower your team
- Take the lead on creating, and then scaling, the graphic design course (and courses on other topics in the future) Mentor other team members to excel in their craft. Understand how to unlock the potential of others using the best tools and techniquesNurture a collaborative, trusting environment amongst your team and foster cooperation with other groups
Empower our students
- Help our students to gain the skills they need through education to earn a living wage in a digital design job Successfully launch our pilot course, and then work with us to scale this and create courses on other topics Constantly iterate on your content to ensure this suits every learning style and leads to the desired outcomes Innovate in new ways to teach young people with no design background how to design and.Do the best work of your life!
