Art Director Job Description 

We are looking for an Art Director to join our Creative Marketing squad.  As an Art Director you will partner with a copywriter to deliver world class brand advertising campaigns for Canva. You will be a creative problem solver who is passionate about storytelling and bringing unique stories to life with art direction that feels inspiring, human and empowering. You must be comfortable working across all mediums and channels. You’re a conceptual thinker who can visualize your ideas in new and inspiring ways. You have a strong point of view on concept, design, production and art direction. You are comfortable seeing your vision through from concept to launch without any hand-holding. You are a humble and highly collaborative operator. 
 
You will be part of the Canva Creative Marketing squad and work in partnership with the Product and Channel teams, Brand Strategy, Creative Directors, Creative Leads, Production team and the Operations team to execute against the seasonal Marketing priorities.

How We Work
 Our internal clients include the Product Marketing, Brand Marketing & Channel Marketing teams as well as internal business teams such as our Leadership, Community, Recruitment & Vibe teams. We are responsible for championing a consistent and human brand, and evolving it over time as we learn, grow and pursue excellence in branding. We scale through our external agency and production partners and collaborate with cross functional creative teams such as Product and Sales. 

Responsibilities

  • Art direct, design and concept big, conceptual brand expressions across all mediums, including mobile, product, film, interactive, OOH, print, events, experiential etc.
  • A strong understanding of how art direction, design and conceptual ideas can be used to tell a story on behalf of a brand 
  • Make complex ideas simple
  • Present ideas in a clear and focused way that builds consensus within the team
  • Work collaboratively within a cross-functional team environment with writers, engineers, strategists and product managers
  • Work autonomously, with little hand-holding
  • Create original, breakthrough work
  • Work closely with local creatives in key markets and transcreation specialists to scale ideas to global audiences whilst ensuring all work feels hyperlocal and relevant.

About you

  • You have 5+ years at agency/in-house concepting and art directing ideas for brand and product
  • You have demonstrated experience working on 360 full-funnel campaigns
  • You’re Comfortable with chaos. You can find solutions even without perfect
