Job Description

At Canva, we’re on a mission to empower the world to design. We’re democratising design because we believe that everyone, everywhere, deserves the ability to express their ideas and unleash their creativity.

Inspired by a team of talented creatives, an amazing culture, and remarkable growth trajectory—we’re one of the world’s fastest growing technology companies and we have only achieved about 1% of what we are hoping to do!

If you’d love the opportunity to contribute to a product that is seen and used by over 45 million people across 190 different countries, and our newly formed Foundation, join us! We’re out to change the world, one design at a time.

Canva Foundation

The Canva Foundation’s mission is to Be a Force for Good by bringing the best of Canva to help solve global challenges in the most impactful way possible.

They do this through their 2 focus areas:

- Empowering nonprofits through design

- Giving work to youth in poverty

‘Empowering nonprofits through design’ is brought to life by our:

Nonprofit Product Team (PM + engineers) who aim to create a seamless nonprofit experience in our product and equip nonprofits with the best content and community.

Nonprofit Design Services (designers + copywriters) who partner with nonprofits on campaigns with scaleable impact by providing our design services. This squad sits in our Templates Team.

Nonprofit Design Education (you!). This sits in our Design Education Team.

Design Education Team

A crucial ingredient to empowering Nonprofits through design is education.

We do this through our Design School education that aims to give people who don’t consider themselves ‘designers’ the creative confidence to achieve their goals.

Canva Design School offers free design courses, featuring some of the world’s leading experts in their respective fields. Our vision for Design School is to become the best place in the world to learn design, and to offer the best online learning experience possible.

With our growing content library and requests from nonprofits for design education, there is a need for a graphic design educator to work closely with the Design School team to create bespoke design education content for nonprofits that empowers them with the skills, knowledge and guidance they need to get the most out of Canva and improve their impact.

This role will support various design outputs, such as in-app learning activities, playbooks, how-to videos, storyboards and illustrations for our course content. This role would also act as a trainer and facilitator for many different forms of virtual and in person learning for events for nonprofits.

The successful candidate will be an all-rounder, with the ability to craft creative and engaging learning content, the ability to facilitate and train, as well as having great time management skills and a can-do attitude. Experience working with nonprofits is highly desirable.

About the Role

As NFP Course Content Designer and Educator, you will be someone who can:

Communicate complex ideas visually. Design School aims to make the complex simple, taking big broad topics and making them applicable, engaging and accessible to everyone. This person needs to be able to take a complex thing and communicate it simply with visuals. All the while, making sure that it helps our nonprofit users learn.

Manage their own time. As this person will juggle multiple projects and help chart new territory in building out our course structure, they need to be adept at managing their own time and priorities, to get stuff done well and on time.

Be comfortable with change. Design School for nonprofits is in its early stages, and with that comes a lot of trial and error and moving pieces as we figure out what works best. This person should be comfortable with a high level of ambiguity.

Communicate with various stakeholders. Communication skills are key. This person will need to be able to communicate clearly and work with internal and external parties to create the best online courses and help teach our content.

Learn new skills and adapt to what the role needs. While experience isn’t essential, this person will need to be open to learning new skills, whether that’s basic animation, screenflow tutorials or instructional design (whatever the job requires!)
