About the Role

This role focuses on embedded software development using languages such as C, C++, and Rust, targeting various microprocessor platforms across hardware modules. It offers an opportunity to apply your engineering expertise in a distinctive field and contribute to our efforts in aiding the global transition to renewable energy.

In this role, you'll be tasked with designing safety-critical software, a key component in our commitment to reliability and robustness. You'll play a pivotal role in enhancing our development processes and prioritizing rigorous testing to ensure top-tier software quality. Working closely with hardware, you'll help bridge the gap between digital and physical components, contributing significantly to the iterative maturation of our products from conception to market readiness.

Reporting to the Software Manager, some of the specific tasks of the role include:

  • Designing and developing embedded software using C, C++, and Rust
  • Testing and debugging hardware components
  • Designing, implementing, and maintaining comprehensive software tests at multiple levels (unit, integration, system)
  • Creating detailed design documentation and supporting knowledge transfer and future maintenance.

Requirements

Essential Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s or Master's Degree in Computer science, electrical engineering or equivalent and 2+ years applicable workplace experience; or
  • for candidates with less than 2 years work experience, a strong academic result demonstrable via transcript and/or final year project report
  • You are proficient in C, C++, and/or Rust
  • You are experienced with MCU architectures, peripherals, and development environments
  • You are strong in electrical and electronics fundamentals
  • You are comfortable reading electrical schematics and datasheets
  • You are experienced with embedded toolchains and workflow
  • You are skilled in electronics debugging with lab equipment
  • You are passionate about engineering and can share evidence of this via a personal project or public git repo
Highly Desirable:
  • Direct experience as an embedded software engineer
  • Experience with Linux environment
  • Experience with power electronics and battery energy storage systems
  • Experience in Python or other scripting languages
  • Experience with embedded stacks for ARM cores
  • Experience with safety-critical systems
  • Experience with test-driven development
  • Experience with continuous integration, build, deployment amp; monitoring
