The Opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Histology Manager. In this role, the successful candidate is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day management of the Histology laboratory including but not limited to operational management, quality assurance, staffing, workflows, time management, technician training, equipment maintenance, vendor agreements and more. You will be a LEAN advocate and ensure the laboratory follows all LEAN principles.

Key responsibilities:

    • Train new team members in LEAN practices, time management, and prioritisation.
    • Identify and address value stream waste, applying LEAN principles for waste reduction.
    • Document LEAN progress using metrics and visuals.
    • Lead, manage and supervise the laboratory team including recruitment, workforce allocation (rostering), and facilitation of team meetings, performance management issues and participation in any disciplinary matters.
    • Maintain a department environment which promotes cooperation between co-workers.
    • Establish and maintain all laboratory records in accordance with specifications.
    • Ensure that all equipment within the Laboratory is functioning properly and ensures that all personnel is educated on proper techniques of operation.
    • Provide technical expertise regarding problem solving and manages specimen discrepancies including investigating, retraining and resolving, documenting and notification to the COO.
    • Develop and implement laboratory operating policies and procedures including the laboratory quality control program and adhere to ISO and NPAAC requirements.
    • Demonstrate a strong sense of professional ethics and immediately brings to the attention of the COO suspected errors that might impact patient care.
    • Participate in the safety training program of the company and makes certain that staff are properly trained.
    • Expand the laboratory portfolio by helping to develop new research projects and proposals.
    • Recommend measures to improve testing procedures, use of equipment and any need for new equipment.

Requirements

  • Tertiary Degree in Medical Laboratory Science or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in a Histology laboratory.
  • Minimum 3 years of Supervisory experience required.
  • Ability to organise and prioritise workflow to meet the company’s and client requirements.
  • Experience with purchasing and consumable levels within agreed budgets
  • Ability to consistently maintain compliance with Histopath’s standard operating procedures at all times.
  • Demonstrated commitment to excellent customer service with a high level of interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to develop and maintain strong collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders with a diverse range of people at all levels.
