About the Role

As Systems Engineer - Linux, your role is to manage and maintain the Linux/Unix server environment and to provide proactive and reactive support services. The managed services team(s) are engaged by our customers to maintain the availability and reliability of a their core infrastructure. You will be using Automation tools such as Ansible on a day-to-day basis and may be required to assist customers with Application rollouts via Ansible at times.

In conjunction with the rest of the Managed Services team, you will be accountable for the timely action of customer service requests, within agreed service levels, whilst maintaining accurate and timely updates to technical documentation and ticket notes. You will also be required to operate under the guidelines of defined processes and procedures and are expected to ensure effective and professional communication with all relevant parties.

What you’ll do

As Systems Engineer - Linux, you will be responsible for, but not limited to the following:

  • Use Ansible to perform day to day activities
  • Use amp; modify existing Ansible playbooks to perform Application rollouts in customer environments
  • Meet client SLAs for system availability, uptime and reliability
  • Proactively manage and monitor the system environment for continuing business support
  • Perform role responsibilities and duties during business hours, with occasional after-hours and on-call as required
  • Perform regular Project Services work and work at a Design/Architecture level.


What You’ll Bring

You will bring at least three years’ experience in a complex, corporate, multi-server IT environment. You will have strong knowledge of RedHat Enterprise Linux 7 amp; 8 or similar flavour of Linux such as Ubuntu, Centos, etc. Along with extensive experience configuring and deploying servers, developing scripts to automate server builds and supporting systems infrastructure (systems, storage, networks, virtualisation platforms etc). You will be comfortable using Ansible in day-to-day operations tasks. Plus, you will have experience with sever security initiatives and have supported Virtual Server Environments.


You will possess exceptional customer, problem-solving and technical documentation skills, and be a team-player. Other skills you possess or technologies that you will have worked with include:

  • Check MK
  • Prometheus
  • Science Logic
  • PRTG
  • Grafana


Automation / Scripting:

  • Ansible
  • Python
  • Bash
  • PowerShell


Software Packaging / Deployment:

  • Red Hat Satellite
  • Docker / Buildah / Podman container development
