About Us:

Since 2020, I Am Mindful has been transforming the way mental health education is taught across Australia. We work with primary and secondary school students, educators, parents and community groups to facilitate interactive, informative and inclusive workshops around mental health coping skills from psychology's best therapies. With the support of our key partners The Melbourne Clinic Psychiatric Hospital (Healthscope) and The University of Melbourne, our mission is to help young people and their support system to learn to manage big feelings and tough thoughts in a healthy and skilful way.

Our evidence-based workshops have been tried and tested across all relevant age groups and are based around the contents of our mental health toolkit, the I Am Mindful Box.

Job Overview:

We are looking for engaging, charismatic people to join our team who love working with young people. We are looking for confident communicators who have the presence and relatability to engage groups of primary school children and teenagers and are passionate about preventative mental health. As a Workshop Facilitator, your role will include traveling to primary and secondary schools across VIC to facilitate fun and engaging workshops on mental health coping skills and how to manage tough thoughts and big feelings.

This is an extremely unique opportunity to connect with young people across the state and spark generational change.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitation: Conduct interactive sessions in primary and secondary schools, delivering the I Am Mindful Program to students.
  • Program Implementation: Collaborate with school staff to ensure the successful integration and implementation of the program within the school's curriculum.
  • Student Engagement: Foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment, encouraging active participation and open discussions among students.
  • Assessment: Evaluate and monitor the progress of students throughout the program, providing feedback and support as needed.
  • Resource Development: Work with the program development team to create and update educational materials, presentations, and activities that align with the program's goals.
  • Community Outreach: Engage with parents, teachers, and school administrators to promote awareness of the program
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with other facilitators, educators, and mental health professionals to enhance the effectiveness and impact of the program.

Qualifications:

  • Currently studying a Bachelor's or Post Graduate degree in psychology, education, occupational therapy, counseling, or a related field.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with students and create a safe space for expression.
  • Empathy, patience, and a passion for promoting positive mental health among young individuals.
  • Ability to adapt to different school environments and tailor the program to meet the unique needs of each group.

Key Selection Criteria:

  • Current Australian drivers’ license and daily access to a car
  • Valid Working With Children Check (or willingness to obtain one)
  • Confident public speaking and ability to facilitate to large groups and skilfully manage group dynamics
  • Passion for mental health and working directly with young people and students
  • Confident, fun, outgoing, kind, empathetic, patient, quick learner, organized, reliable and will go above and beyond to get a job done.
  • Youthful and relatable (comfortable to draw on own experience with anxiety/tough times when explaining new coping skills, and how they can be implemented at home/school).

Desired Selection Criteria:

  • Strong understanding of child and adolescent development, mental health issues, and coping strategies from sensory modulation, mindfulness, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).
  • Previous experience in facilitating educational programs, preferably in a school or clinical settings
