About the Role

Journey Beyond aviation operations consist of West Coast Air Services (WCAS) and Kimberley Air Maintenance (KAM) as part of Horizontal Falls Seaplane Adventures and Spirit Aviation as part of our Outback Spirit business. The Aviation Fleet amp; Safety Manager is responsible for managing the continuing airworthiness of the aircraft within WCAS including Cessna 208 Floatplanes and smaller piston aircraft, in conjunction with the Chief Aviation Engineer of KAM. In addition to this is the role of Safety Manager. This role is responsible for the implementation and review of the safety framework and strategic plan, procedures, and work practices to comply with relevant Australian Standards, safety legislative requirements, regulations, and corporate standards. This position is based in Broome, Western Australia and is being offered on a permanent, full-time basis.

Key responsibilities:

  • Ensure the availability of serviceable aircraft for the daily flight schedule is achieved through an effective fleet maintenance management program
  • Ensure that defects or unscheduled maintenance are rectified appropriately, conducting further investigations if required
  • Manage the safety management systems (SMS) across the aviation division, including corrective, remedial and preventative action along with continuous improvement of the SMS
  • Manage the maintenance and continuous improvement of the company fatigue risk management program
  • Coordinate the risk register and review operational risks along with conducting risk assessments
  • Lead and manage investigations into health, safety, environmental or other incidents. Where appropriate making decisions on safety outcomes or providing briefings and advice to the Senior Aviation Team, General Manager and HR
  • Educate managers and team members in risk and workplace safety and continue to develop a safety focused culture
  • Participate in the internal and external WHS audit function and implement and drive behavioural and legislative safety standards to improve safety performance
  • Oversee the Advisory Safety Committee meetings, Management Safety Committee meetings and other project teams as directed
  • Plan, organise and oversee relevant aviation safety, security and WHS training for staff at all levels

About You

Your success in this role will be achieved through:

  • Suitable background in Aviation Operations or Aviation Maintenance to be able to understand and lead a Continuing Airworthiness Management system
  • A thorough understanding of the Australian CASRs, ideally Parts 119 and Part 135, and how they relate to CASA Maintenance regulations
  • Demonstrated safety management experience to capably lead, manage and set standards to implement the SMS in accordance with WCAS and Spirit Aviation Expositions
  • Highly self-motivated with the ability to solve problems and make informed decisions
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, coupled with a high attention to detail
  • A continuous improvement and safety focused mindset
