While most of our team operates in Sydney, we also have several remote team members who support the business from various locations. About the Opportunity

The General Manager assumes a crucial role in shaping the strategic direction and overall management of Impulse Trading. Working closely with the Owners, you will be responsible for overseeing all facets of business operations, spanning from procurement, quality assurance and logistics to sales and customer relations. The General Manager embodies a dynamic leadership presence, underpinned by a robust background in the bulk foods import/trading industry, exceptional business acumen, and a proven track record of propelling operational excellence. This visionary and results-driven leader inspires the team and fosters Impulse Trading's growth and success to the next level. In this role you will be responsible for:

Strategic and team leadership:

  • Develop and execute the company's short-term and long-term strategic plans to achieve growth and profitability objectives.
  • Identify emerging market trends, opportunities, and potential risks, and adjust business strategies accordingly.
  • Recruit, train, mentor, and motivate a high-performing team of professionals.

Operations Management amp; Compliance

  • Oversee the procurement, planning, importation, quality, storage, and distribution of various products, ensuring timely and cost-effective outcomes.
  • Optimise supply chain logistics to maximise efficiency and minimize operational costs.
  • Monitor inventory levels, quality control, and compliance with industry regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant food import regulations, safety standards, and industry certifications.
  • Stay up to date with changes in import/export laws and requirements to mitigate potential risks.

Sales and Business Development:

  • Lead sales efforts to expand the customer base and increase market share, both domestically and internationally.
  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with existing and potential clients, partners, and suppliers.
  • Collaborate with the sales team to develop and implement effective marketing and sales strategies.
  • Represent the company at industry events, trade shows, and conferences.

Financial Management:

  • Develop and manage the company's budget, financial forecasts, and performance metrics.
  • Monitor financial statements, analyse variances, and take corrective actions as needed.
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings and revenue generation.
  • Manage FOREX exposure.

What you will need to succeed

As an experienced people leader, you bring high energy and a commitment to deliver outstanding results. You are a strategic thinker who is adept at aligning business strategy to deliver operational excellence.

  • 8+ years' experience working in a GM or similar senior role in the food import / wholesale industry.
  • Proven experience in developing and delivering business strategies
  • Proven and demonstrated strong leadership with the ability to inspire and motivate teams
  • Strong financial acumen and exp
