Are you a talented backend systems developer with a proven track record of building modern, well-architected and secure web applications? If so, we are looking for an experienced backend developer to join our team of creative and innovative technologists.
We are based in Yálla-birr-ang (Collingwood, Melbourne) and welcome applications from all backgrounds. About the role
As a Senior Backend Developer, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining the core back-end components of our application stacks. You will work collaboratively with our multidisciplinary project teams to ensure high-quality and fit-for-purpose builds.
Your days will be spent:
- Engaging with our client partners and their IT teams, working on challenges and opportunities as a trusted subject matter expert
- Collaborating in multi-functional project teams consisting of strategists, producers, designers and developers to plan and deliver work sprints
- Guiding the technical design, scoping and implementation of backend systems
- Contributing to our various craft initiatives through regular meets and working groups
- Supporting other developers with coaching, reviews and guidance
Requirements
You will be able to demonstrate:
- Experience mapping business requirements into technical designs and approaches
- Experience in open-source CMS development and decoupled architectures
- Rich experience with API and middleware development
- Knowledge of database design
- Strong and practical cybersecurity fundamentals
- Experience working with, and developing on, cloud platforms and services
- DevOps and automation experience highly desired
- That you can legally work in Australia
- Passion for emerging technology, architecture with creative problem solving
- A desire to engage with a broad range of stakeholders and build trusted relationships
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills - our developers work directly with other developers, designers, producers and clients
- An ability to thrive in a collaborative, creative team environment
- A desire to learn and contribute to process improvements, platform development and innovation
- An appetite for problem solving

- Kindness, empathy and respect
- Experience with modern Javascript frameworks
- Delivered Drupal and CraftCMS projects
- A desire to grow into a solutions architect role
- Practical experience with DevOps
