About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and outcome focused Aviation Safety Manager to join our team based in Broome, Western Australia on a permanent part-time basis (0.6). This role will provide support to our aviation operation across Journey Beyond which consists of West Coast Air Services and Kimberley Air Maintenance (Horizontal Falls Seaplane Adventures) and Spirit Aviation (Outback Spirit). This role is responsible for the implementation and review of the safety framework and strategic plan, procedures, and work practices to comply with relevant Australian Standards, safety legislative requirements, regulations, and corporate standards.
Key responsibilities:
- Manage the safety management systems (SMS) across aviation, including corrective, remedial and preventative action along with continuous improvement of the SMS
- Manage the maintenance and continuous improvement of the company fatigue risk management program
- Coordinate the aviation risk register, review operational risks, conduct risk assessments and identify controls to eliminate or reduce risk across the business
- Lead and manage investigations into health, safety, environmental or other incidents. Where appropriate make decisions on safety outcomes and provide briefings, reports and/or advice to the Senior Aviation Team, General Manager and HR
- Educate managers and team members in risk and workplace safety and continue to develop a safety focused culture
- Participate in the internal and external WHS audit function and implement and drive behavioural and legislative safety standards to improve safety performance
- Active preparation and involvement in the Advisory Safety Committee meetings, Management Safety Committee meetings and other projects as required
- Plan and organise Aviation Safety and WHS training for staff in conjuction with the Chief Pilots and HR team
About You
Your success in this role will be achieved through:
- Demonstrated Safety Manager experience to capably lead, manage and set standards in aviation operations
- Strong safety and regulatory knowledge to enable the business to conduct Australian air transport operations safely and in accordance with company approved documents and the civil aviation legislation
- A proactive customer focused approach to building relationships with internal staff and external stakeholders including but not limited to CASA and ATSB
- Highly self-motivated with the ability to problem solve, use initiative and make informed decisions
- Strong communication and literacy skills, coupled with a high attention to detail
- High level of computer proficiency and analytical reporting skills
Interstate travel to Darwin will be required as part of this role.
