About The RoleWorking within the Climate Resilience Solutions team in the PEXA Digital Growth Business, you will collaborate closely with data engineers and scientists, cloud engineers, and product owners to gather, understand and translate business requirements relating to ingestion and storing data into technical user stories and functional requirements to ensure the data vision and goals are delivered promptly.As a Senior GIS Data Analyst, you will play a critical role in our organisation by utilising your expertise in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and data analysis to support our environmental risk assessment and mitigation projects.
What you’ll be doing
  • Identify and help resolve problems with data integrity and support data cleansing activities.
  • Documenting our data asset via data flow diagrams, entity relationship diagrams and/or data schemas.
  • Documenting and maintaining our data dictionaries and data catalogues.
  • Contribute to the sprint backlog by ensuring business requirements are captured including functional and non-functional requirements (such as usability, security, reliability, performance, availability, and scalability) with business and technical value identified on each item.
  • Management of enterprise-level hardware and software systems to support storage and delivery of geospatial data
  • Oversight of design and maintenance of databases, the development and compliance of accepted GIS operating standards.
  • Assist in training and preparing supporting documentation in using the tools and platform as new features are added.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Comply with PEXA corporate, compliance and data governance policies.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior GIS analysts.
  • Stay up-to-date with advancements in GIS technology and environmental risk assessment methodologies.
  • Conduct training sessions and workshops to enhance the GIS knowledge and skills of team members.
What you’ll bring to the table
  • Min 6 years demonstrated experience in a Senior GIS Analyst role.
  • Experience in supervising, monitoring and evaluating the work of GIS staff
  • Experience in developing system specifications or requirements
  • Experience in spatial data analysis/management/processing.
  • Experience in environmental risk data collection and collation.
  • Experience in planning and implementing GIS projects and applications.
  • Experience in data schemas, hierarchies and data definition.
  • Experience with data models and database concepts.
  • Ability to articulate complex situations and information clearly.
  • Stakeholder/client relationship management experience.
  • FME skills with the ability to extract data from various sources for analysis.
  • Data mining skills to work through data to identify patterns, trends, and discrepancies.
  • Experience of working within an agile organisation.
  • Experience in using programming languages (Python, Javascript, SQL, R)
  • Knowledge of spatial automation
  • Knowledge in open source GIS software/s (e.g. QGIS)
  • Knowledge of APIs
  • Skilled in online visual collaboration tools
  • Basic knowledge of cloud services (e.g. AWS)
