About The RoleAs a Senior Data Engineer at PEXA, you will be crucial in implementing our new modern data stack and ELT pattern, focusing on a cloud data warehouse. You will be responsible for modelling, quality assurance, and transforming data into data models for use across the organisation. Working closely with the Data Delivery amp; Operations Manager and other key stakeholders, you will ensure that our data infrastructure and models follow modern CI/CD practices using the data build tool. Additionally, you will mentor Data Engineers, bring best practices and thought leadership in Data Engineering, and possess deep knowledge of various data model design patterns.
What you’ll be doing
  • Design, develop, and maintain data models using dbt to support various business needs. The Senior Data Engineer will be responsible for designing and developing data models that support business needs and ensuring that the models are optimized for performance, scalability, and maintainability.
  • Ensure data quality, integrity, and security throughout the data pipeline. The Senior Data Engineer will ensure that data is accurate, complete, and secure throughout the data pipeline, from ingestion to delivery.
  • Collaborate with data analysts, data scientists, and other data professionals to understand data requirements and deliver data solutions. The Senior Data Engineer will work closely with data analysts, data scientists, and other data professionals to understand data requirements and provide data solutions that meet business needs.
  • Participate in the continuous improvement of our data infrastructure and processes. The Senior Data Engineer will be responsible for identifying opportunities to improve our data infrastructure and processes and will work collaboratively with other teams to implement these improvements.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve data-related issues. The Senior Data Engineer will be responsible for identifying and resolving data-related issues promptly and effectively and will work collaboratively with other teams to mitigate the risk of future issues.
  • Apply a consultative approach to understand business problems and provide effective data solutions. The Senior Data Engineer will apply a consultative approach to understanding business problems and providing effective data solutions that meet business needs.
  • Lead and influence technical and non-technical stakeholders to drive change and support data-driven decision-making.   • Mentor and guide junior data engineering team members. The Senior Data Engineer will be responsible for mentoring and guiding junior data engineering team members and providing thought leadership in data engineering best practices.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and best practices in data engineering. The Senior Data Engineer will stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in data engineering and will proactively seek out new information to ensure that our data solutions are cutting-edge and innovative.
What you’ll bring to the table
  • At least 5 years of experience in data engineering, including experience with Snowflake or a Cloud Data Warehouse and dbt
  • Strong understanding of ELT patterns and modern data engineering practices
  • Deep knowledge of various data model design patterns, such as Kimball, Inmon, Fact Dimensional, and Data Vault 2.0
  • Proven experience in mentoring and guiding junior data engineering team members
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot complex data-related issues
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills, enabling effective interactions with diverse teams and stakeholders
