About the role

Melba has permanent opportunities for Disability Support Workers to work in our Supported Independent Living service based in Frankston to work a set four weekly roster. You’ll be a guest in someone’s home and no two days will be the same. You’ll help people figure out what they love (their goals) and work towards that. It’s not about doing things for people; it’s about providing just enough support at just the right time to help them do things. It’s their fabulous life afterall.

What you’ll do

  • Help with all aspects of daily living from getting up in the morning to going to bed at night
  • You’ll promote personal choice and control for the person, empowering them along the way
  • Administer medication
  • Helping people maintain their dignity while you assist with personal hygiene, showers, etc
  • Assist with household duties like cleaning, cooking, and washing
  • Aid people to get to their chosen activities like social events, work, and appointments
  • Implementing support plans based on supported persons needs, preferences and interests

You’ll have

  • A passion for helping and working with people from all walks of life
  • Desire for meaningful work and comfortable providing people with daily living support
  • Willingness to learn new skills, undertake ongoing training and be part of a team
  • Service industry experience or mindset encouraged to apply eg tourism, hospitality, retail.
  • You are empathetic, calm, patient and compassionate by nature
  • You have a demonstrated ability to be adaptable and capable of dealing with challenging and unexpected situations.

You will also bring with you:

  • NDIS Worker screening Check
  • Working with Children Check
  • Current unrestricted Australian Driver’s License
  • Evidence of COVID 19 vaccination status, including booster
  • Current First Aid Certificate with CPR
  • Availability to work a set four weekly roster mostly morning shifts with 5:30 am start.
