  • Full time, Permanent
  • Classification: Consumer Service Delivery Level 3 $77,656 - $83,565 per annum + Superannuation

About your new role

The Lived Experience Intake and Assessment Workers will form part of a multidisciplinary mental health team, delivering high quality mental health intake, assessment and referral services for individuals in the region who experience mental health issues and are seeking support. The Intake and Assessment Workers will provide the intake function; receiving initial referrals, undertaking eligibility screening and reviewing referrals to ensure the right level of care is provided. The Intake and Assessment Workers undertake a collaborative team approach, supported by regular opportunities to reflect upon their practice and access comprehensive training and supervision.

Core duties

  • Act as a central point for people to speak to someone about mental health issues and receive information and advice about accessing mental health and AOD services
  • Receive and action incoming referrals via a dedicated 1800 telephone line, fax and email and a number of online portals
  • Provide holistic assessment of needs using the Commonwealth’s Initial Assessment and Referral (IAR) tool
  • Conduct evaluation of referrals for eligibility and urgency; and case prioritisation
  • Review referrals requiring clinical evaluation and if appropriate allocate consumers for clinical assessment to Clinical Lead

What you will bring to the role?

  • A lived experience of mental illness and a demonstrated journey of recovery. Intake and Assessment workers who have a lived experience, possess a rich understanding of the processes of recovery. Lived Experienced workers should be willing to purposefully use their own story to help others further their own understanding of recovery. As with other Neami staff, Lived Experience workers have access to a tailored training program and to regular opportunities to reflect upon their practice.
  • Demonstrated experience in the provision of mental health assessment and supporting consumers with presenting mental health concerns
  • Experience working with client information systems, maintaining accurate documentation and data collection

What the role requires:

  • National Criminal History Check (Police check) disclosable outcomes considered
  • Current Working with Children Check (Blue Card) required before commencement of work
  • Compliant with Queensland Health and Metro South Health’s workplace health and safety requirements, including Requirements for Workers in Healthcare Settings
  • Evidence or commitment to gain evidence to meet Queensland Health’s Vaccine Preventable Diseases (VPD) requirements. It is a condition of employment for this role, for the employee to be, and remain, vaccinated against the following vaccine preventable diseases during their employment: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella (chicken pox), Pertussis (whooping cough), and Hepatitis B
  • As part of Neami’s condition of employment you will need to provide appropriate evidence of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (having received three doses) to Neami National.
